I get in this morning and guess what? Our email server in Texas is down so there is no email. I fielded about 20 direct calls on the subject and everyone seemed pretty understanding. Unfortunatly there is always one idiot in the bunch.

Me: Morning this Windogg
Idiot: Is email down?
Me: Uhhh... yea. Didn't you hear my overhead update about 5 minutes ago?
Idiot: No I just got in. (Blatant lie since I saw her hanging around the coffee for the last hour)
Me: Well its down. I'll let helpdesk know as soon as it up.
Idiot: But I want email now!!!!
Me: Sorry, can't help you. I'm in touch with the people in Texas and they assured me that they call me ASAP when its back up.
Idiot: That's unacceptable, go and do something right now!!!!
Me: Right now? The only other solution I have is to fly to Texas right now (from Boston) and check when it will be up again.
Idiot: Excellent, do you have a ride to the airport?

WTF?!?!? She was actually serious about that last comment. She was going to call me a cab to the airport!!!

I come into work and the server is down. So I make an announcement over the PA that it's down and I'll make another announcement when it's back up. Then you just prepare yourself for 20 call from idiots saying; "Duh, I can't log in. Is something wrong with the server."

No sh!t.

God I wish we had an IT department - besides just me.


 
Hey... there are a whole bunch of us Massholes here huh? I was in Cambridge until about two weeks ago. Just moved to Waltham to be closer to work which is in Lexington.

as a company, EMC makes storage devices, $1 mil storage devices mind you, the size of a refrigerator 😉. My division makes the servers (DG). I tried to assimilate some of them for RC5. no go. 🙁
