AA quality

Basically it looks like either Nv or Ati AA look better, depending on what kind of monitor you're using. Scroll down to where it shows the picture of the wires, look at the original unzoomed shots, and tell me:

1) which method looks better, and
2) if you're viewing this on a LCD or a CRT screen.

2AA,4AA ATI for sure, on my CRT

since i have 2 monitors, heres my views.

On my Sony LCD, the ATI is horribly ugly, Nvidia is much better. When i move the window over to my viewsonic CRT, the ATI is now drasitcally better and the Nvidia is jagged.

The ATI 2X and 4X look better than the Nvidia ones to me but Nvidia 8X looks better than ATI 6X. I'm on a CRT.

That's what I was thinking too. I use a LCD at work, and when I looked at it, the Ati 2x and 4x AA looked like crap. And now on my CRT at home the NV 2x and 4x look like crap.

Do you get that chain link effect on Ati's 2x AA? It looked like a bunch of alternating dark and light pieces on the LCD I used.

Hmm...I guess it does look like kinda a "chain link" effect, yeah...

It doesn't look great, but it still looks better to my eyes (less "jaggies") than the Nvidia implementation (at least going by the images on that page)

Viewsonic A90 CRT here, and ATi's 4xAA completely beats nVidia's 4xAA.

So right now, ATi looks better on CRT, while NV looks better on a LCD.

Is that right?

Comparing the two equals, the ATI 4x looks better than NV's 4x on my Dell 2005FPW. Overall, the NV 8xS looks the best IMO.

Personally I like how I can run just about any game at 6XAA at 1280x1024 on my X800Pro, then I turn on Temporal AA to make it effectively 12XAA. It's incredible; no jaggies whatsoever.

Can you run all games 8xS (maybe x8AF?)using 7800 GTX SLi?
I need to know, since i might be upgrading (finally) to SLi.

On a Dell 1905 with a 5950 Ultra it was hard to tell that there was any difference until I looked at the pics on my other computer (Dell 2001 and 7800 GTX).

Without any AA the pic looks terrible. nVidia @ 8xS looks best to me.

Both look like puke to me. The ATI is too light and the NVIDIA is too dark IMO. The reason CRTs favor one is because they inherently blend the pixels making it seem a little darker perhaps. That's the same reason why an LCD is sharper. The LCD's picture is more accurate. It's almost like the "vibrant colors" vs "accurate colors" argument. If I have my facts straight it's yet also the same reason why non-native resolutions look so much better on a CRT.

Could be because of contrast ratio too...

If I had to choose, the ATI looks better. Even though it's a little brighter, it's obvious the AA quality is of higher-caliber. "Chain-link fence" > jaggies IMO. I'm using an LCD via DVI.
