a90f+ Problems

I just bought my monitor the other day and am having serious issues with it...

Or maybe it's an ID 10 T error ;)

I can't get the OSD settings to stay the way that I put them. Actually, the problem is even more broad and general than that -- I can't get the screen to look perfect (i.e., gets rid of all the black around the edges) at all! When I try to get it to rotate so the black on the bottom is fairly horizontal, the very thing black bar on the top has a slope to it...

I can't get it right!

I've messed with all the settings multiple times. Not quite sure what's going on. Actually, when I turned my computer off last night and then started playing with the computer today, I could have sworn I left my settings differently, but the screen seemed to have moved!

Anybody else having this problem? Would this happen to be a hardware problem with the monitor? I can still exchange it if it's defective...

:(

Also it seems as though I can't get the brightness level right... I keep playing with the options and it seems so bright that it's faded...and when I lower contrast/brightness, things get too dim/dull.

This thing looks much better at the Best Buy!

I don't understand why I can't get it to work. :(

Heres the deal with this monitor. I know, I own one. They are great monitors, but some have geometry issues that can't be solved, and what I did was take it back to the store until I was satisfied. The thing with the settings is just your monitor is cold and when it warms up it will go back to where you set it as long as you don't screw with the settings thinking they aren't the same as when you left it. I love mine despite these quirks. My advice is to take it back and get one without geometry issues, as they don't all have that problem, or at least not severe enough to have a problem with.

Oh wow! That's unbelievable...I never thought they'd have serious problems -- especially since I've heard lots of great things about it. I'm glad I know about this problem. Now it's time (I guess) to go switch it out.

Out of curiosity, how many monitors did you go through before you got one that didn't have a serious geometry issue?

Thanks for telling me, John-Paul! I was seriously worried I was going crazy ;)

Hmmmm...

I keep looking online for others that have agreed with this geometric problem and I haven't found a single thing...

Sad. I always thought ViewSonic was top of the line when it came to monitors.

To be honest with you, i'm very picky about even the slightest imperfection, so to me, if the border is even on tenth of a mm uneven on one side, i'll notice and return it. You haven't found anyone with this problem because they don't consider it a problem. Especially with these flat faced crts, it's very hard to get them perfect. This isn't only a Viewsonic thing either. I'd exchange it if it's really off, other than that though, these monitors are great and you won't find a perfect one of any type, and for the money, this one is one of the best. I'd exchange it for the same model and see if that doesn't take care of your problem, because to be honest, by the sound of it, it seems like yours is off more than average, because normally it really shouldn't be noticable unless you're really squinting to notice. If it is not an average amount of geometrical distortion and is very noticable, take it back. I said it before and i'll say it again, I LOVE MY A90F+, sniff sniffle BTW, if these slight geometry issues bother you, you may just want to get an old curved faced monitor, because I have tried all different top brands, and they all have some slight imperfection with the flat face models. I still like them a lot more than their curved screen bretheren. let me know how you do also.

Thanks JohnPaul!

I have one more question. Is it normal for all CRT monitors to have to "warm up" to become geometrically aligned properly?

Actually it is. Some don't and some do, it all depends on the model. If yours did it and nobody elses did, then I would be worried, but I know for a fact that these A90F+ do require warm up before adjustment, and I have used many other models of monitor that also do, right out of the box, so it's not abnormal.

Got same problem with NEC monitors. Perfect Geometric is impossible to have with CRTs.

Thanks y'all for the help.

I never knew that it was impossible to get perfection in these CRTs. I guess I never really noticed imperfections on my old Sony Trinitron (Dell P992) -- and when I sold it and got the a90f+, I was shocked to see the edges imperfect...

I'm going to end up exchanging this monitor relatively soon.

Thanks again for all your help!

You know it's one of those you get what you pay for deals.
I have one of those A90f's and hated it.
I now have a NEC 22" FE2111SB-BK and love it!
If you look at the 2 running side by side you will
see what I'm talking about. And My eyes don't hurt anymore.

Get what you pay for?

I'd be willing to say that $299 isn't cheap for a monitor. How much did you pay for your NEC?

I'm not willing to pay $500 for a 19" monitor. Frankly that's just kinda nuts. Prices should keep dropping, not going up, especially since LCDs are becoming more mainstream.

Sorry, I simply don't believe that $300 for a monitor (a90f+ runs at that price) is cheap. I'm just thinking I have a dud.

By the way, Dell P992s (which is the monitor I previously had) is known to have lots and LOTS of problems. And that monitor ran at $450+ when I bought it.
