a8v rear audio

I'm posting on behalf of a dude I know.

He's having problems getting the rear/center/sub working with the onboard realtek ac97. They work fine in games that support 5.1, but windows remains front audio only.

He already enabled 5.1 in advanced speaker settings, and using soundman changed to 6 channel mode.

Now I remember on my old a7v8x I had a problem with 5.1 not working until I set environment from "none" to something like "room". I had him do that but with no prevail. He's not a super experienced user, and there might have been an additional setting he may have missed... Any idea's from you a8v deluxe owners?

*and yes, he has the speakers hooked up right

IM THE GUY THAT CANT GET THE REAR SPEAKERS WORKING WITH REALTEK AC'97

ONBOARD, I HAVE AN ASUS A8V DELUXE MOBO AND THE PROBLEM IS I CANT GET THE

REAR SPEAKERS WORKING WHEN I PLAY WINAMP, THE FRONTS AND SUB WORK BUT

NOT THE REAR/CENTER. NOW HERES WHERE IM CONFUSED.......ALL SPEAKERS WORK

WHEN I PLAY GAMES, JUST CANT FIGURE OUT WHY THE WONT WORK ON WINAMP. IF

ANY ONE HAS A SOLUTION I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU VERY

MUCH.

Winamp isn't the problem here. A winamp plug-in isn't going to get Windows to play in 5.1 like it should. There in lies the question.

The sounds are originally stereo sounds anyways, I don't see why you would want them to play through all the speakers if they aren't meant to.

Either way, there's probably something in your sound drivers to upmix to 5.1 sound.

personally i'd rather have a choice of using 5.1, rather than being absolutely stuck on front channel only; thats just gay. I've owned 3 mobo's with onboard audio in the past 2 years, 2 with ac97 and one with the nforce2 audio chip (cant remember the name at the moment) and all of them were capable of playing 5.1 in windows xp... there simply must be a way to get the current to all speakers...

i had 5.1 playing on my creative sound blaster on my previous mobo with no problems. i should not be having this problem on this board
