Just built a new rig and I was advised to change my ram settings in the BIOS from 'AUTO' to '2:1' in order to get the most out of my OCZ Plat Rev 2 DDR3200 ram.

What do you guys think?

Since I'm running a FX-55, wouldn't this tax the already stressed FSB too much? How dangerous is this?

Oh yea...and I've already set my cpu to auto oc'ing in the BIOS.

Thanks for any advice!

Auto and 2:1 will give you the same thing.... PC3200 is SPD set to 400 which is 2:1 since the FSB is 200Mhz.

Also having the A8V limits any OCing you can do, but if you did want to overclock... go into the BIOS and slowly bring up the FSB, this will increase memory speed, CPU speed and FSB.

I would start low and slowly go up, go into windows and run Prime 95 every few Mhz, and run it a few minutes. Once you find a setting that gets it to crash after a few minutes, go into windows and drop it a few Mhz, I prefer 4-5 just to be safe, so it doesnt start crashing under major load like games.

Did you also try the auto overclocking on your 6800? The Ultra's don't have a ton of headroom, but they can go up some. Nvidia's auto overclocking works well IMO, it doesn't take the card up to it's limits, but it will get SOMETHING out of it, great for someone new to overclocking.
