So sometimes when I start my machine up, usually after being off for 12+ hours, I get some beeps, but I wasn't paying attention, so I can't describe their order/length. Not that that matters, because I have been unable to find a list of the beep codes for this board, not in the manual, not on the web...

Anyway, I suspect video or memory, most likely video because nothing displays on the screen at all when this happens. I think it was one long beep followed by 2 short ones, and then I have to reboot the computer and it comes up fine.

Any thoughts?

Not to mention this board doesn't seem to have a log that can be checked or anything....

have you installed bios 0404??

beeps mean there's something wrong...
Maybe your OC is not stable

Some points that MAY help you.

Changing the HTT requires a shutdown/power on cycle.

Try 1 ram stick @ a time and run memtest

Use another vid card if possible to see what's up.

Run 2 instances of Prime95 simultaneously to see if your processor stands up to high stress (remember to set affinities)

Isolating the problem is what you should be aiming for, of course.

Good luck. Otherwise get an RMA.

Mine behaves well though I'm paranoid it may be killing my mice... I've lost 2 in the past 2 months...

Logitech G7s.

I found a beep code list, but I am not near my machine right now and don't remember the BIOS this board runs, can someone confirm so I can check my beep code against the proper list? I am getting 1 long beep followed by 3 short ones. I did confirm that last night but did not have time for further troubleshooting. Thanks in advance. I think it is AMI, but I am not sure. If so, then the post error code is a memory test failure. Should I RMA through newegg? I already have a post on this on the g.skill support forum on xtremesystems forums.

So this board is AMI bios, and the code is for a base/extended memory failure. If the memory is the problem, why will memtest86 not find any problems? It runs for 5+ hours with no errors at all. If the memory is fine, why won't it post!?

ugh...HELP!!

This morning I tried starting it up, had to reset 3 times to get it to boot past post, and when I did get it to startup, the video card driver is now not installed. It shows up in add/remove programs, but not in device manager and was detected as new hardware. I will have to reinstall them tonight when I get home.

I also noticed that when I boot up, the post screen shows that the memory clock = unknown. Is this normal?

I checked speed fan and it was showing vcore1 correctly, it had a reading of vcore2 = 3.25 steady (i think this is really my +3.3V rail), and then +3.3V = 2.6 fluctuating from 1.4-3.4, not steady at all, but mostly floating around 2.6V which is what my memory is set to, so I assume that reading is actually my DDR voltage. I would assume that the fluctuations from 1.4-3.4 is not good, and could actually be the basis of my overclocking stability issues. Would this be caused by bad memory? Or would it be the motherboard or even the PSU that is the issue? All rails on the PSU are stable, so I don't think that is it but I could be wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, my BIOS is reporting my CPU running at 40C idle...PC Probe is saying 32 idle... isn't that REALLY high for an opteron 170 w/ an SI-120, delta 120mm fan, and AS5 thermal compound? Maybe I didn't apply the AS5 right? I expected much lower temps from this chip. With the voltage I am at and clocked back down to 2.4ghz...it shouldn't be that high.

Just as an update on this issue, when the ambient temp in my room is >~75*F the machine boots fine. When it is cooler out and the ambient temp in my room drops, I get the post error. What component is this sensitive to ambient temperature? PSU or Mobo? I thought this was an interesting twist. Anyone ever heard of this?
