Hey!
I recently upgraded my A8N-SLI to a A8N32-SLI board when the fan died on my previous board and in the process of replacing it I broke the board
First I installed WinXP 64 and after installing all the drivers it kept claiming I had 2 unknown devices. Couldn't think what the problem was, so I scratched that and installed a 32-bit WinXP pro, which didn't return these unknown devices. However then problems started!
I keep getting every so often my GFX card crashing returning a going into a VPU Recovery loop. Nothing seems to cause the crashing in particular and the timing is pretty random, often it goes into a fatal loop however and then switches over to a software driver (Perumably disabling my gfx card). My gfx card is a X800-XL btw, and gave no problems prior to installing the new board.
In trying to diagnose the problem I ran my crucial ballistix 3200 ram through Memtest-86 and it failed all over the place including about 8 fails in test 5. I had never run this app before, however I ran another memtest application which didn't result in failures (unless I was overclocked). I've sent to buy some new faster memory however my concern is that the memory is actually fine, I don't have another system to check it unfortunatley.
So, does anyone have any ideas what would cause my gfx card and memory both to fail at the same time ? Could it be that my board is overclocked at some point I've not checked by being on switched on auto like the PCI-Express? Could it be that my CPU memory controller is fauly ? (I;ve run it through Prime in it's own cache without problems, it crashes in a Prime using memory however)
I know this could be a load of different things, but just wanted to pick some experts brains!
