Hey all,
New PC:
NZXT Lexa
Thermaltake ToughPower 600W SLI/Crossfire certified
Asus A8N32 SLI-Deluxe
AMD A64 3700 San Diego
Scythe Mine CPU Cooler
XFX 7900GT 520/1500 (Factory Settings)
Patriot LL PC3200 1GB 512x2 (Previously used in another pc)
WD Sata 16MB Caviar 250GB
Asus CD/DVD Rom
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

I have searched but not found any new ideas. I am in the process of building my 14th pc. I am far from an expert but not a complete beginner either. My problem is this:

No video output at all. Monitor does not acknowledge the pc although it has no problems when I attach my other pc or attach both to a KVM and switch back and forth.

The dvd-rom, case fans, hard-drive all powered up. I couldn't see if they were working properly with no video output but nothing sounded odd. I have tried reseating everything, verified all power connections were fully attached and swapping monitor cable with DVI adaptor attached from a working pc to the new pc, verifying that the monitor, cable and adaptor are all good. I tried both outputs on the video card. I installed the video card in both black and blue PCIx16 slots on the motherboard. While swapping slots and switching the cable around, I did verify that the fan on the video card was spinning each time.
I also bought another video card, BFG 7600GT, and tried that card in each slot to no avail.
Everything was purchased from Newegg so I am preparing to RMA the motherboard unless anyone has any bright ideas?
Anyone? Anyone? .....................Bueller? Bueller?

Thanks for the input.
Mike

Did you say you got it working if you put the sick PC on the monitor thru the KVM switch or was that a different PC? Do you know what BIOS you have on your A8N32? Can you get any video display on any other monitor? Did you try the DVI to VGA adaptor and try hooking it up analog temporarily?

no video at all with new pc.

i have 2 pc's. the new one with the A8N32 motherboard and an old pc based on a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU with a XP 2000+ and a 6600GT. (Can you see why it was time for a new one? haha)

I could not get any video out of the new pc. When the old working pc and the new pc were hooked up to a kvm switch, nothing was different. I could switch to the old pc and use it like normal. When switching to the new pc, it was the same as if mouse, keyboard, and monitor were hooked directly to the new pc. ie no video output....

The only monitor I have is a 19" crt Trinitron so I have always used the DVI to VGA adaptors. I have to use one on my old pc which has a 6600GT with only DVI outputs and I have never had a problem.

I am unsure what bios is on the motherboard (A8N32) because I have never gotten a video signal to the monitor. I know the 1205 bios added support for the 7900 cards but I also tried a 7600Gt with no success. As I mentioned before though everything is receiving power, including the videocard because the gpu fans were spinning on both the 7900GT and the 7600GT.

Is the machine giving you a beep about 10 seconds after powering it on? That would at least indicate that it is postings. Do you hear the hard drives spin up or anything?

Actually, Capt Caveman, that is a very good question. I assumed from flartacus' quote...

I have tried reseating everything, verified all power connections were fully attached and swapping monitor cable with DVI adaptor attached from a working pc to the new pc, verifying that the monitor, cable and adaptor are all good.

...that he included the 6 pin power connector that must be attached to the video card, but I guess he does not spell that out specifically. This would certainly be a problem. He did say that fans on the video cards are spinning, but I believe they recieve their power thru the PCIx16 slot.

I did have the pci express connector plugged in. I did hear/feel the hard drive spinning but heard no beeps. On this case though (NZXT Lexa) there is no speaker connection to the motherboard.

I think I am just going to RMA and try a new one. I can't find anything I was doing wrong even though the issue is an odd one.

It will go out in 3 hours so any ideas hit me up quick otherwise thanks.

20 pin or 24 pin psu?

If 20 pin, you need to use the Asus EZ plug on the motherboard for additional power to the PCI-E cards.

Also, if you are not hearing the beep, you might not even be POSTING and if you aren't POSTING, you won't see any video. There was a PC Speaker that came with the MOBO that you have to put on a couple of pins on the MOBO. See if you can find it in your box. Otherwise, I think you can get them at Radio Shack.

i covered both those questions. the new thermaltake toughpower psu's are great. they have 24 pin connector but the last 4 are clipped on so it can be removed for older systems. quad 12v rail @20amps each and a 14cm fan = superquiet.
onion i didn't see the speaker in the Asus box but I grabbed the one out of my working pc and when installed i heard a single beep (it posted)

thanks for all the input. I don't think I am going to find a solution though.
I am going to leave for the post office in a half hour so thanks for the help but I am going to try a new board. I just wish I didn't have to wait until next week to receive the new one. I didn't make the board go bad but I am going to be out $20 for priority shipping and insurance. Then I get to wait 3-5 days for Newegg to go through it and mail me a new one. Hopefully they use 3 day shipping at least to get the new one to me. I will be lucky to get it for next Friday, 10 days from now.
Oh well poor me boo hoo. I am done whining and this is my first faulty product in 8 years from Newegg so I have been lucky.

Thanks all,
Mike

Let me know if the new board fixes your problem. I suspect it will. You went thru a lot of good info and logical steps. I'd like to hear how it turns out (especially since I own one of these bad boys too).
