a8n sli windows x64 instal issue

Hey guys I have an a8n sli premium board

I just bouhgt a 74 gig raptor and i have 4 gigz of ocz ram

when windows x64 boots from cd it freezes at "starting up windows", or the very last step of the bluescreen when it loads all that information

I would like to know what is causing hte issue, basically the cd spools down and it stayts where it is

any suggestions?: I dont have a floppy drive to load sta drives but i dont think that sata drivers are the issue since it's the x64 editoin

thx

Sounds like memory. In Bios what your mem speed and timings and you're not overclcoking anything right? Best thing to do is - "load fail safe defaults" then set mem setting to 166 or it might be 333 on your board. Can you burn memtest onto a CD?

Could be that the memory isn't completely compatible with the motherboard. Did you do what Zebo suggested and tried using a divider to underclock your ram?

bump
now I get to the press enter to install , press r to repair etc menu and the setup does nto respond.

i think it was due to my partition booting error that Idid in windows with a previous installation

Is there such a thing as a dos startup boot cd that will allow me to repartiiton w/ f disk?

need is a strong word when talking about a very new OS. that for the most part is still full of driver holes. why don't you TRY installing XP Pro or home just for the thought of trying it makin sure that it isn't the OS that is haveing problems and not the hardware.

PS try doing it with only 2gb ram also???

the install works with 2gb but not 4gb?

why not just install with 2gb and then put the other 2gb in after it is installed 😕

acole because I get memtest errors with the other 2 gb installed but none when the 2gb of the 4 is out.

The 2gb i took out i got replaced since hte other 2 passed memtest

Put all 4 and did memtest and i got the same amount of errors

Thats what I think it is too John
I only changed the settings for hte ram from auto manual to
2-3-2-5 I did not change anything else.. maybe that's the issue

What should my settings be for the 2-3-2-5 1gb x 4 ram in bios?

Maybe your board doesn't like CAS 2. Try 2.5-3-3-8 at 2T with 2.7v on the memory and run memtest.

what about "auto" settings

Auto settings means the motherboard will read the information off the SPD that is programmed on the memory. Most likely, the information is based off having 2x 1GB. Since you are maxing out the amount of RAM in your machine, try the settings I gave you to start since they are pretty conservative on the memory.

P.S. I actually used to work for OCZ in tech support so I can help you as long as you need. My name on here used to be OCZJohn. There are other reps on here too if I'm not online. SteveOCZ and RyderOCZ.

In the Jumper Free section of the BIOS, set the Overclock Profile to Manual (or something to that nature). From there, set the DDR voltage to 2.7v. It's been quite a while since I used that board so some of the words I used may be a bit off but you should be able to get the point.

BTW, which CPU are you using?

the x2 4800+

ok well i got x64 installed but hwen i install the other 2gb windows will not boot it just restarts before the splash screen, must be oltage.

update tried voltage and it did not work same situation as above

pulled out the other 2gb it works fine... gonna try bios
