hi,

i have an a8n-sli premium mobo (bios v.1005) and 2 wd raptors installed on it. I tried to install a WD Caviar SE 250gb hard drive (EIDE). When i go into the bios, it shows up as a 128gb hard drive, and it is the same when i boot into windows. I have windows xp pro with sp/2. any suggestions?

Did you install this EIDE HDD before or after you installed SP2? If it was before, then it will only be recognized as a smaller then 137gb drive. You have to install it after SP2 or you need to use a partition software to restore the other portion of your drive for windows to recognize it properly. I had to do the same thing with my SATA II drive

ok, i have a windows xp pro w/ service pack 2 cd. in my original setup was 2 raptors, but later i added this drive. it seems to be recognized in the bios as a 128gb hard drive also.

i did that before, and it just gave me 137gb (128). i would prefer to have 4 partitions, but that wont seem to work either, because i cant even get the drive to show 250gb (232) right now.

i was wondering if it has something to do with the bios because the bios only shows teh drive as 128gb . i am hoping the bios has support for 48-bit LBA

Update the bios to the current 1006 Official. Even the 1005 will have LBA support. Either that or go out and get partition magic, that worked for me

Update your bios, THEN restart your computer, check the bios to see what it says about the HDD. If it is STILL reporting that it's under what it should be, put in your Partition Magic CD, set your boot drive to CD only and restart.

Go into Partition Magic (should start up on it's own) and repartition your HDD into the fullest you can. That's what I had to do and it worked flawlessly for me EVEN after I installed everything on my HDD

thanks for the reply.

it turns out that the hard drive was faulty. I got a replacement 200gb hard drive, and it is perfectly fine.

sorry for all the trouble.
