A8N-SLI Noise Reduction For Two GPU's

It seems that there is a consensus that the Zalman ZM-NB47J fanless chipset cooler is sufficient for replacing the noisy 8500 RPM chipset fan. So I went that route with the chipset, and everything is running stable. (Although be aware that you may need to have good air movement through your case to be on the safe side.) That took care of that noisy little chipset fan.

Now it is on to the GPU's. I have two ASUS 6600GT's in an SLI configuration. AND THEY ARE LOUD! It is annoying to me because I like to listen to music while I sleep, but the 2 video cards are just too loud to do that. So I have been searching high and low for people that have set up an SLI system with fanless GPU's. But no luck...

I have considered these, but I am skeptical that, 1. the cooling will be sufficient, 2. the heat sync will interfere with the SLI bridge that connects the two GPU's.

Zalman ZM17-Cu

Zalman ZM50-HP

This may be the only alternative. But I am not sure that it will fit between card one and two:

Zalman VF700-Cu

I am a Zalman fan, but I would check out any option or advice anyone has to offer.

OK, Check out this card, it is too bad it is not an SLI. Although this heat sync may work with the SLI? But I can not find a retail version of just the heat sync alone. BUT IT LOOKS PERFECT!!! blasted...
Fanless 6800

Anyway, if anyone has seen a successful fanless SLI configuration I should would appreciate a tell.

ive been considering the same..

thats why i havent quite purchased a board and pair of GPU's yet..

the goal is to to keep it quiet and also not to block PCIe/PCI slots...

how can this be done? anybody know of any passive heatsinks or quiet makes of GeForce6600s which dont have godzilla-sized heatsinks?

cheers

I have seen the future my brother, and it is water cooling! :D Seriously, you should give it a try. It can be scary for some at first, but once you try it, you won't know how you got along without it (and certainly will never want to go back to air cooling).

Hey Century,

Water cooling is something I have been seriously considering. My only problem with it is that I take my computer over to a friends house a lot for LAN parties. And if I had to drag another peice of equipment and hook it up everytime I am afraid it will be a hassle.

So still considering it, but still looking for the fanless heat sync first.

They are quiet I guess, but STILL A FAN... And they may be to big to keep the Zalman ZM-NB47J fanless chipset cooler in place, so that would mean going back to the stock 8500 RPM fan, and I dont want to do that.

Water cooled or the Zalman VF700-Cu GPU cooler may be the best options for now.

The problem with the NV Silencer is not the fan, it is practically silent. But it is not compatible with the Zalman NB47J on the Asus A8N-SLI. They want to occupy the same space.

okay i got a quick solution, i used a fan controller and lowered the fan speed to about 5K rpm. MUCH quieter now.
