here's the goodies

Athlon 64 FX-55 CPU
A8N-SLI Deluxe MoBo
2 Gigs OCZ P3500 Performance DDR2 (4 x 512 Array)
2 x Nvidia 6800gt PCI-E in SLI mode
74 gig 10000rpm SATA WD Raptor
Enermax 600w PCI-E ready PSU

Thermaltake Aquarius III Watercooler (CPU right now running Idle at 40.5C)

Want to know:

How far I can O/C this setup..?

What temps should I expect..? (both Idle and under load)

Thankful for any input

DDR2 in an AMD board? Good luck and don't force the mem into the slots. ;).
2 Gigs? Call yourself lucky if it can run at 400Mhz DDR.

You have the wrong ram. Note: Your ram will run at 333mhz w/ 4 sticks.

The new rev E A64's are supposed to address the 4 stick's running at 400mhz.

Is the psu a single rail unit ? There are problems w/ dual rails psu's....

With a 3200+ winchester most ppl get to 2.6 for about $181 ... something to think about...

If you want 2 gigs then go for an opteron setup... You can get dual 246's for the less than the FX-55 ...

As far as oc'ing, nothing is gurantee'd... Also that water cooling is expensive .. Most ppl get 2.6 on air..

I'd get a dual Opteron 250's or 246's over an FX w/ water cooling any day...

Your video card will get you farther that a high priced processor...

Regards,
Jose

I commend you building an SLI and getting a +500 watt PSU and not an antec....

I would say I was a little disappointed in the temp being that is watercooling....Are you water cooling the gpus as well???

I am at 2.66ghz or FX55 levels with air and I am idle at 32c...granted mobo differ but I didn't think the asus was that much higher then the msi...Well one thing to consider is idle isn't everything it is load that really means it...What kind of load temps do you get???

All the other boards I have visited say 40C-50C is a normal Idle temp. some have Load temps of up tp 70C.......mine has never....so far gone above 55c.

I only go to 49c-50c load now with a very pathtic TT venus 12, which IMO opinion is 1 notch up from the stock cooler....

Now the 15c swing is pretty decent but I get about 17-18 again with that pathetic TT...I just thought for water coling we wouls see better and certainly from a non oc'd...I am overvolting mine!!!

yeah 40-50c idlea is fine, but like I said it is the load to watch out for...I certainly would not want to run near 60c for prolonged times....just one hot summer day away from 60+...

Yeah I guess the FX55's run a bit hotter than the Winchesters, the thermal shutdown point seems to be 70c for Winchesters, so load temps over 60c are pushing it. There are people around here with load temps 65-68c on Winchesters, but to me thats just crazy.

On overclocking: 4 sticks of ram is a bit of a handicap for overclocking but doesn't mean you can't O/C well. If you don't have a specific need for 2gb like heavy video editing/encoding, server hosting, SW development etc.. and you just want the best rig you can get, sell two of the sticks and use 2x512

If you want/need to keep 4 sticks just use a lower divider when you overclock to make sure ram isn't the limiting factor in you overclock. CPU speed is more important than ram speed. The FX55 overclocks that I've seen range from 2.8-3.2ghz, with a pretty good majority able to top 3ghz, unless you got pretty unlucky with the chip you should hit 3.0 easily

You should aim for something like

12x250=3.0ghz ,Max memory clock setting=DDR266(3:2 divider) = ram @ 165ish (DDR330)

or

13x232=3.0ghz DDR266=ram @ 150ish (DDR300)

lol Buy different ram such as ocz vx and change the asus a8n to a dfi nf4 sli-dr board ^_^

should be able to have some nice clocks on the ram unless u want a higher fsb go with ocz platinum revison 2..

oh wait, I think he was asking how far he can oc his rig....if he was... he was making up this rig because he said ddr2 or it was a misjudgement

He's right about all that; the FX-55 is a 130nm processor and will run hotter.... I've got a Newcastle 3500 and am just waiting for the Venice chips to come out so I can get one for my rig to run cooler and use my extra 2 stx of RAM. You'll take a big hit in memory performance if you run 4 stix. The Venice/San Diego chips fix that. If you haven't bought yet wait till April. (I wish I'd held off a couple weeks and gotten an SLI board, but oh well....)
