A8N-Sli Deluxe, fast or fat?

Hi,
I have a
A8N-Sli deluxe
Kingston 512MB DDR400 (x2 256)
AX 300 ASUS 128MB x16 PCI-E GFX
AMD 64 3000+
and my friends
P4- 2.8GHZ
Cheap ass mobo
512 cheap ram (cheap)
GeForce 4 128MB average card, x8 AGP
is faster, y????
Its giving me the sh*ts cause he knows nothing about computers and his comp loads faster than mine (win XP) and we both play Need for Speed ud. 2 and he can have his gfx higher than mine!!!
according to all the sites, who test this stuff, i should be 10x faster, but im not.
BTW, he doesnt defrag, format or anything, whereas i do, and he would have clogged his kernal with 100000 bullsh*t programs, and i keep mine clean.
I also regulary clean out the stuff in msconfig, startup and services, but it still takes 6 blue bars to load Xp!! whereas his takes only 4, and when his comp laods its got heaps of crap, ie msn, weather and crap!!! ARRHAHHAHGG

im not a comp noob, but i just dont get it!!! does anyone have any ideas?? ie, mobo 1/2 fried??

Many, many factors involved in boot times. Boot times don't mean anything, its the speed of the apps that you run that matter, run some benchmarks like 3dmark, HL2 or Doom3 time demo. And a 3000+ at 1.8ghz should be only slightly faster than a P4 2.8ghz at stock speeds, only when overclocked will the 3000+ really shine
 
Calm down bro. Give us a complete system description of you computer. Name every part in you computer. Is that video card a Radeon X300?

NokiaDude- yep its a the ATI Radeon X300, it is no amzingly speedy card, but it should still be better than his old "GeFORCE 4 mx 440 AGP 128Mb NVidia" - i found out thats wat he has.

Guitar Daddy, or anyone, can you tell me how run benchmarks, on Doom3 or anything, as listed above?

p.s. i might jsut go down to the comp shop today, buy a water cooler set and overclock my comp 15%! - i wish 😛, but i seriously need a new northbridge cooler, ive finnaly been hit with poor Asus worksman-ship.
 
BTW, i assume only ppl with A8N-Sli's will be drawn to this thread, so can anyone tell me a good passive heatsink for my northbridge?
(Dont assume, unless u have it or know of sumone who does, as the dual pci-e cards/slots take up too much room for a chunky heatsink)
 
Just ran a benchmark test using 3DMark05, got:

3DMark Score 908 3DMarks
GT1 - Return To Proxycon 4.0 FPS
GT2 - Firefly Forest 2.4 FPS
GT3 - Canyon Flight 5.0 FPS
CPU Score 3913 CPUMarks
CPU Test 1 2.2 FPS
CPU Test 2 3.1 FPS

Thats with the default settings, except i changed the screan reso. to 800x600

Can anyone tell me what it means/if its normal for my comp specs?
BTW, it lagged the whole time...

you can get a 6600gt real cheap these days,($150) mine gets 3500 marks on 3d05
 
mobos really don't affect speed that much. you wouln't be able to notice

hey fatty4ksu, have you changed? the first thing i thougt you would say is that he has an intel cpu which is better 😉
 
LOL, i know my cpu will kick a Intell, but this GFX card really seems to suck, does anyone else have one? AX300 or even the 550 (they are pretty similar) or know where i can see its benchmarks?
BTW, for a AMD 64 3000+ is 3913 good?
 
i have a ti 4200 and my comp is better than some people... i think the videocard is holding the system back .. prolly good to upgrade your videocard inorder to see a BIG DIFFERENCE

hm... i cant find anything on tomshardware, of an AX Radeon.
Ive been playing with the settings of my Video properties, and im getting 1382 3D marks, which is significantly better, is this the norm? or is it still low? its 128mB x16 PCI-E, i expected more 🙁
My CPU marks keep getting lower, first it was jsut under 4000, and now it is 3500, is there any reasons for this? i though the result should be pretty stable, but i never get the same numbers twince
 
Isnt abysmal good? meaning limitless? anywho, yea i will get new Card, researching now, 6600GT looks good, im thinking of going dual and taking my A8N-Sli deluxe to the max, but i also need a new northbridge cooler, hopefully passive
 
1) u running with the latest drivers for your card ?

2) doublecheck your bios settings.. maybe you have some settings incorrectly configured
 
X300 just plainass SUCKS. Tell us what Geforce4 your friend has, if it's a higher end model it's probably better than the X300. The X300 is simply not meant for any type of gaming whatsoever.
 
i hope you don't mean dual 6600gt's, a 6800gt is better and cheaper than that, you can also look at 6800 vanilla's, the cheaper ones are around the price of a 6600gt and they are faster
 
He has the "GeFORCE 4 mx 440 AGP 128Mb NVidia x8 AGP", but i dont see how that is right, cause from what i know they cant play Need for Speed Und. 2, and he puts all the GFX on full.

mlc- yea i have all the new drivers, i jsut got the new Cat. 5.6 it actually rose my 3D mark a bit, and my bios is correctly set up.

Coomar- Why is 1 6600gt better than x2?

I stuck a fan on my cards heat sink, over clocked the Engine and the Memory (using Asus Smart Doctor):
324 Engine, 390DDR Memory -to-
337 Engine, and 418DDR Memory.
And i went to my properties and put it on "Performance Mode" (Disables AA and AF basically), now score 1450 3D Marks.

Is 1450 3D Marks any good?
I also get 3700 for my AMD 64 3000+ is that normal?

 
im stupid? ur the one with the pentium...
and no i didnt mean 2x 6600gt's, i meant 2x sumthing, but havent decided yet, thanks for the lead though coomar 🙂

BTW, my PSU sucks balls, could it be slowing down my GFX, since it is PCI-E and should really have more than 300-350 watt
