A8N-SLI - 4GB Memory

Just wondering what type and where I could get 4 1GB sticks to max out the board. The QVL on ASUS's web site doesn't list a manufacturer to get the 1GB sticks from. I am looking for stable memory, maybe to OC, but probably not.

Thanks

Why do you need 4 GB of RAM? Unless you are doing some serious graphics editing, that is way overkill and may slow down your system anyway. Basically any known manufacturer's 1GB sticks would work. 1 GB sticks tend to have looser timings and be worse for overclocking as well. I think most motherboards (not sure if the A8N is included) run RAM slower when all the slots are filled (DDR333 instead of DDR400 or something).

You have to run single sided ram to get DDR400 speeds if all the slots are filled.

I currently am using 1GB in my current system, 2GB in my laptop from work. I run some VMware sessions sometimes and those take up some memory. I was just trying to plan out to maybe start with 2GB and then go to 4GB if needed, but like I was saying, I can find 2x512MB packs but not any 2x1GB so I will have the other 2 slots open in the future. It's been about 3 years since I've built a system, and I there wasn't as many different types back then. If someone could post links to 2x1GB packs and maybe some links or recommendations for 4x512MB packs. The 4x512MB packs I will probably OC, so the most reliable and stable is what would be best.

Thanks.

You don't have to get the matched pairs. Just make sure it's the same model number. Newegg.com is good providing that information. They're also a fantastic place to buy from online.

EDIT: Found some matched pair 2x1GB here. I would see if your board manufacturer happens to recommend any of that ram. If not, then OCZ, Corsair, and Kingston would be my choices.

VMware...that does take up a lot of RAM. I needed up upgrade my 1G systems to 2G to get any decent performance with it. BTW, full screen mode helps with performance quite a bit.

I'd try Corsair for your memory experiment, that's generally the most stable whenever I OC.
