Hello Everyone,
I'm a newbie here,
so bear with me.

Recently put together a fx 53/6800gt/a8n system.
BUT, it just won't work...

mostly, I get a scrambled screen full of multi-colored
lines... this is random. Sometimes the colors change,
sometimes it stays on the screen it first shows, and
freezes (I guess), sometimes it changes to a bright lined
screen, and beeps 6 times... sometimes it shows the
actual bios screen... sometimes it doesn't screw up
after I hit delete. When I do get into bios, (the rare
times I have) it recognizes the ram, cpu, shows a 29c
temp cpu (sweet), but it doesn't recognize my O/S
HDD, but it does rec. the slave one. When I tried replacing
the controller cable, it stopped working again.

I've searched and searched, but it seems I'm the only
one who's had this happen. Now, I *think* it is the damned
MoBo, but I can't figure out what makes this so damned random.

Please help?

I have a OCZ Modstream 520 psu, yes I have it hooked to the power
first thing I did. The card is definately in properly. Sure, it's the first pci-e
card I've ever had, but I've reseated it more times than I care to think
about. And what pins are you talking about?molex? They're good as far
as I know. I had some success getting into the bios. Again, no dice.
Although once it showed my slave as having more gb (as if it added
the master to the slave). I actually hooked the master back to my old
comp, worked instantly. Why are mobo's getting worse anyways?
Shouldn't they be getting better? Any other ideas guys?
PS, it is a 40 gig maxtor hdd(the master). Does a8n dislike smaller
hdds? Also, there is no table for POST beeps in the manual, even
though it says there is one.

Thank you, there was a chance one of the two would be bad (ebay auction)
but it doesn't explain the 6 beeps...

This board has voice post messages. Plug some speakers into the green jack on the mobo sound riser and you should hear the obnoxious female oriental voice.

And try each GPU individually in single mode, if one is bad you can find it this way.

And try reseating the SLI selector card, this thing is extremely picky.

Yes, I've tried everything I've been able to find
including resetting the CMOS... the only voice
warning I get is about the cpu fan (though, there
is a big whopping fan on it). The only sound I
can get is 6 beeps, which I cannot find the meaning
of. Asus is very secretive when it comes to the
POST beeps...
