A7V8X-X won't post at correct CPU speed...

Hello,

Just built a new computer with an Asus A7V8X-X. The only problem is the thing refuses to post at the correct speed. It s using an Athlon 1.2ghz, but will only post at 900 mhz (setting the FSB to 100 instead of 133). Not quite sure how to trouble shoot it at this point...

Thoughts?

I know it's not the CPU as I have used it at 1.2ghz in 2 other builds (recycle heh .

Besides resetting the cmos and updating the bios..thoughts?

your manual should tell you how to change the FSB setting... probably a jumper...

Therein lies the problem...the FSB is set in the BIOS....when I set it to 133 it doesn't post...

hmmm... that is odd... no jumper to switch to a different mode or nothing... weird.

I smell a red herring. What is the memory:CPU ratio set to, and what is your RAM? Maybe the kick to 133MHz FSB is taking your memory frequency beyond what your modules can handle?

edit for clarity: set your memory timings manually and ensure that the modules will be able to handle whatever the resulting speed is when CPU FSB is set to 133MHz. The CPU is a 133MHz-based one, right, not 100MHz-based?

Yes. CPU is the 133 mhz based one. The Ram is ddr2100, so it should run at 133 mhz (266).

Any other thoughts?

Any idea what the problem components might be?

You set memory to spd, cpu external freq to 133/33 and memory freq to auto?

Wrong model - mine doesn't have that jumper.

Yep, didn't work. I was able to inch the thing up to 1.07 ghz by fiddling with the FSB speed.

I don't think it's the RAM as I was able to run that at 266 with the CPU set to 900 mhz...


Any more ideas?
