its listed at $161. It doesn't mention onboard RAID in the description or in the chipset info, but if you look at the box, it does say RAID onboard...I would just call to confirm before you buy.

I noticed that too (missing the "E" and description and no mention of RAID or on-board sound in the description). I sent them an e-mail questioning them about it. In the past they have promptly answered my e-mails, but never tried it on a weekend. The Asus website clearly states the RAID and on-board sound are optional, so is this maybe that version? Asus site also does not say anything about a "A7V266-" version of this board.

Strange, but if NewEgg confirms that it has RAID and sound I will probably order it today.

<<<I think Newegg is more reliable>>>

That's cool. I was just pointing it out because it properly listed the board's model name and there was no question as to what you'd be getting.

BTW: I've spent thousands of $$$ at googlegear and never had a problem with them. Newegg as well. They're both good retailers.

The board at Newegg has RAID and sound, but I don't think it's 6 channel.

I couldn't wait and bought one locally in Illinois for about 10bux more. It looks identical to the one in the picture at Newegg.

One tip, your first RAM chip must go in the first slot. Not sure why since a lot of other boards don't care, but I couldn't get it to post when I put RAM in slot 3. I was hoping to give the CPU a bit more breathing space. Oh well.

I have the sound disabled because I have a sound card.

The board is rock solid, I noticed an immediate improvement from my A7V133. I should have run some scores to see what the difference was.

The only tweaking I've done this far is to move the CAS to 2-2-2. I'm using Corsair 2400. I'll start tweaking when I get everything loaded.

It's a great board, I thought about holding out for the Abit, but I was tired of waiting.

How are you sure of this? If it's true then it's perfect for me since I don't need the 6 channel anyway.

EDIT: Does anyone know if this is the version that can fit the new Alpha HS?

LOL Swanny,

I think the only way you are going to find out is by buying it yourself.

BTW DO NOT buy from googlegear.com, they extremely suck. I bought a LiteOn 24x burner from them and they shipped it with hardly anything protecting it and surprise surprise when I install it into my machine it doesn't even work!

Pricewatch was showing the NewEgg listing this morning for $163. Had pretty much the same description as NewEgg's website except it specifically said RAID. Now Pricewatch shows no NewEgg listing at all for the A7V266-E.

I hear ya drkangel on Google Gear. A 4.1 rating on resellerratings.com tells me to spend my money elsewhere.

I like NewEgg's 6.5 rating a lot better.

Thresher: I would think the board at newegg does have 6-channel audio. Does ASUS make a board with sound that is not 6-channel??

Swanny for your reading pleasure... linky. Short story is a guy has the 8045 and A7V266E... the capacitor is in the way and he's shaving off 4MM of his 8045.
