My friends comp:

a7v133, 256 pc100, 1.1 tbird, sblive mp3+ 5.1, radeon AIW original drivers, sm56modem
win2k sp1
1) dvd playback choppy, blurry, and staggered - could it be the drivers? wont install windvd 2k...
2) audio randomly mutes when opening a program or just surfing. check back in 1 hour.

check to see if DMA is enabled for the dvd unit. Gave me a ton of trouble when I first set mine up 🙂

I had the same problem before fixed it pretty easy:

go to settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> ide/atapi controller things
then go to the chanel where your dvd drive is, then to advanced settings and change transfer mode from PIO only to DMA if available.

This Worked for me Fine.

Should both Device 0 and Device 1 be set to DMA? When this was done, the CD audio didn't produce any sound, and while the DVD playback was smooth, it was still quite poor quality.

Also are the 4 in 1 drivers installed?

If the sound is skipping when opening a program... Id have to ask if the Sound Card is in PCI slot 2? If so move it to PCI slot 3.

Image quality would have nothing to do with the MB... that would have to do with the setup for the DVD program and/or video card or decoder card.
