A7V133 - chip upgrade

I just bought an XP1600 to replace my old and tired Duron. I use BIOS 1004 and know that I have to flash to 1007.

I found two files from ASUS , AVU1007.awd and 1007.bin . Both files are of the same size and downloaded from ASUS site. Anyone knows if there is a difference between these two files and which one should I flash to? I also found another file, 1008.01b , any inputs on this one?
All files where zipped btw.

You can run the aflash.exe utilty to check which BIOS will work for your mainboard.
after you follow the instructions on making a boot disk, make sure you put those bin files on a disk, run aflash, and when it asks you, save your bios file to disk, call it old.bin for example, and then go back to the menu, and go to flash bios or update bios, you then put in the file name, and before it flashes, it asks you if you want to, giving you a summary of the file, telling you if it's for your mainboard, and the date on it. try this, it's an easy way to figure it out, and i guarantee that method will work. that is unless someone doesn't help you in the meantime.

Thanks for the reply Yield. I forgot to mention that I flashed the BIOS twice from the original 1001C to avu1003a and then to avu1004. I only want to know which is the best file to flash to.

I have flashed my A7V133's BIOS every time a BIOS comes out, I haven't had any more or less problems with any of them.

It currently has the latest BIOS on it, I am not sure exactly which one it is, but it was only flashed last week, and it's running hunky-dory.

Flashed the 1007.awd. The 1008.01b is a beta bios. If ur mobo is PCB 1.05. (note the trailing dot). U could run XP using jumperfree mode.

But for PCB ver 1.04-1.05 (note...no trailing dot). Mobo is only stable using jumper mode.

Its a 1.04 version.

I reset CMOS from the solder points and now it does not boot 🙁
It does not give me a video signal, no POST.
I only have video, floppy and hard disk connected, the fans are working (cpu and northbridge). The light on the board is on, no beep codes.

Any takers?

Do this:
1. Flash the bios to 1007 (w/ the Duron in it).
2. Reboot. Go to bios & load default.
3. Reboot...everything fine...shut down.
4. Put in ur XP. Clear the CMOS.
5. Fire it up. (note tht at this time ur mobo is still in jumperfree mode).
6. Go into bios. Load default.
7. Reboot...everything fine...shut down.
8. Switch the mobo into jumper mode w/ correct setting.
9. Fire it up....should be fine now.

Note tht this steps is a lenghty steps to ensure u made it. I've done it in a shorter steps...but...never mind. Try it & post back ur results.

Thanx Wind.

The problem is that now I no longer boot. Or maybe I boot but I cannot see anything on screen. When I switch on my monitor it displays something like 'no signal detected'.
I cleared the CMOS with the duron still in place, in jumber mode with the correct clock speed. Now when i hit the power button all I see is the fans spinning. The reset button also does not work, and I hear no beep codes. I have only a floppy and hard disk installed and even tried to boot with an old PCI video card.
It all happenned when I cleared the CMOS. Any chance I might have ruined the BIOS chip?

Update

Got it back in working order. All I did was to go back to jumberless mode. Will flash in a while and post back.

Final update.

I did everything Wind's way and I have a nice and faster system now. Everything seems to be running smooth.

Thanks to all of you.
