I just rec'd my A7V. Here's the question. I have a WD 30G 7200 ATA 100 as Master, Pioneer 16X DVD as slave on the same cable. I have a Plextor Burner, and a Imomega Zip as master and slave respectfully on the second cable. WHERE DO I PLUG THEM INTO??? Ther are four IDE slots on the MB, two Blue, two Black. If I plug the HD/DVD cable into the Blue ATA slot, the HD doesnt show up in the bios. I've tried a few combinations, and just don't know the secret. I'm up and running now, but the HD shows up as a disk drive in Harware properties, and the zip is Drive B. What's going on? Thanks

the blue IDE ports are for the onboard promise ata 100 controller. in order to make that work in your OS you have to install the drivers for it (off asus's site). thats' why your hard drive doesn't work properly on it.

for now, just use the non-blue ones, and then later you can switch up to ata 100 when u have the drivers.

Ok.. I have loaded the drivers from the CD Promise ATA drivers from the CD that came with the board.I think my problm is the cableing. Is there an ATA
100 on each IDE? If so then I would need to hook the HD/DVD on one IDE plugged into the blue slot, and Burner/ZIP on the black one on IDE 2. Is this correct?

there is a primary blue and a secondary blue. these are the ata 100
there is a primary black and secondary black. these are ata33

in order to effectively use an ata 100 hard drive, you need to use an ata100 cable (it has 66 versus 33 wires in it).

what Operating system are you using? do you have the OS installed already? also, you may need to go into the bios and see if the onboard promise controller is enabled, because that could also be your problem

here's what i would suggest
1) plug hard drive into primary master of ata100
2) plug dvd in primary slave of ata 100
(that means that both dvd/ hard drive are onthe same cable, with the hard drive jumper set to master and the dvd player jumper set to slave). then this one cable is plugged into the primary blue slot (leaving the other blue slot unoccupied)

3) plug burner / zip into primary black IDE port. set burner to master with it's jumpers and set zip to slave. (therefore the secondary ata33 port goes unused).

hopefully, this will help you out a little more.

Ok.. I just moved some stuff around. Everything seems to be fine, but my plextor burner does not show up. HD and DVD show up as Master and and slave on IDE 1.. ZIP shows up as drive "D". Where's the burner?? Thanks.

i would double check the jumper settings on the burner. it should be master and the zip should be slave. and verify for me where they are plugged in? (to primary black ide controllers i'm guessing?)
