A7V: PCI Master Read Caching and Delayed Transaction

I'm having trouble enabling these two settings in the BIOS (Rev 1002) The manual states that these settings should be enabled for Athlon processors (disabled for Duron), but every time I enable one or both of these settings, my computer locks up hard within about two minutes of booting into Win98SE. The reason I want to enable these settings is that the ASUS monitoring software reports that my CPU runs about 10 degrees cooler with these settings enabled (35 idle down from 45 idle). The description in the manual doesn't really say what these settings are for, does anyone know. Is there a performance increase from having them enabled. My computer is normally 100% rock solid stable, excpet for when I turn on these two settings in the BIOS.

Please help,

I don't think these settings are going to have anything to do with cooling. Delay transaction, lets a pci device interrupt the slower isa 8bit card calls to speed up pci/isa performance. Good idea to enable for pci2.1 compliance. The other is a memory performance tweak.
