Has anyone else had a problem with the A7V and CD-Roms or DVD players? I have the 1007 BIOS loaded and no matter what I do, I can not any drives detected when I have my DVD player connected.

I tried the DVD in another system and it worked fine.

Are you sure that you have jumpers right when you trying to connect your DVD? If it's in the same cable with HDD and both are set "master", neither will work. I have A7V and everything has worked perfectly so far (I have had 2 CD-ROM's and 3 HDD's connected at once)...

I have tried all sorts of jumper settings, switching IDE cables, etc. The bottom line is when the DVD is connected to the IDE cable, nothing gets detected.

yes I have recentlly had probs trying to install a new creative brand
DvD player to a system already running a kenwood 72x true x CD-reader
and a plexwriter 12/10/32a cd-rw. in my system each existing CD was
a solo master on its own ide port and my Harddrives (two) were solo masters
on their own ata 100 port. I connected the dvd several ways including
solo master on ide and both CDs on one ide, solo master on one ide, the cd-rom on the second ide and the cd-rw as slave on my secondary ata 100,
and I tried placing the dvd as a slave behind my secondary HD. The creative
instructions indicate that the dvd is very fussy about how it is connected.
The best connection I got was the dvd as a slave behind the HD (which is
curious since creative says ata 100 conection is not supported) my main
problem was that no matter how I connected, my plextor was not properly
identified and basically stopped working. My new DVD is now sitting on a
shelf waiting to go into my next computer

No problems with the DVD on my A7V.

You might tell us what else you have running in your box.

Only my hd is connected to the ATA100 Promise controller. Promise controller is finicky. Don't attach cd or dvd to it.

My Pioneer-115 DVD and Plextor 12x10x32a CD-RW are on the VIA controller.

DVD is primary master. CD-RW is primary slave.

good luck

in your post i didnt see where you said which controller your using, but.... the promise controller on a7v only supports hard drives, so make sure all your cdroms/dvd/zip/etc are on the via controller

I have a ATA66 drive as my primary master. No slave.

On the secondary channel, I have an old 5gb HD as the master and the DVD (Creative 12x) as the secondary.

I have tried making the DVD the master and I have even tried putting the DVD as the primary slave. I have tried all different combinations of jumper settings on the HDs and the DVD.

The processor is an Athlon 1ghz, 266FSB and 256mb PC133 memory from Crucial.

I can see during drive detection, the DVD gets skipped but none of my drives get detected?

I will also give a little more background. Put in DVD, everything detected fine but Windows hung on startup. Re-booted, nothing detected. To make sure I didn't get a dud DVD, I put it in my machine with an A7M266 and it worked fine. For sh1ts and giggles, I put the DVD back in my A7V, and it worked. I went to work but when I came home, the activity light (can't think of the proper word right now) was solid orange indicating it was not working. I re-booted and none of my drives were detected.

I am stumped. Thanks for everyone's help.

I tried as a shot in the dark, upgrading the BIOS to 1008. No luck as I expected but I wanted to try.
