I just got a new computer with an A7V. I can't get it booted up. I'm 96% sure it's the video card. all I have in there now is my video card and some RAM...when I take out the ram I get long continuous beeps (the no ram POST signal)...so I can safely assume my ram is working.

I'm using a V3 2K (agp), it should be well seated in the slot (I've tried placing it more than once). And the card is tested and working. When I boot up, i sometimes get 1 long beep and 2 short ones (everyone talks about 1 long and 3 short, I get 1 long and 2 short, I think they are both video card problems..but what's the difference?) or I get nothing. Whenever I boot up, nothing shows up on the screen and my monitor appers to be in stand-by mode.

I've also tried with a working ATI pci card (an older card) in all 5 pci slots...same damn thing.

Can anyone help me out?

I've had the same error, but never really figured out what it means. I did, however, notice that a screw from my fan was in too far pushing the heatsink so that it was not sitting on the cpu properly. Check that your fan/heatsink is properly sitting level on your cpu.

Thanks for the help, but no go :(

I got some more info which might help...

after my long beep followed by 2 short ones...I get 2 other beeps (which definetly do not seem to be part of the same sequence)....These are longer than the short beeps but shorter than the long beeps (medium beeps?). They are also at a different frequency than a) each other and b) other beeps. The first one is at a higher frequency than the 2nd.

I kinda sounds like you are playing an Atari 2600 game and you die =)

Hope someone can help me.

I have seen similar problems, I'd check the ram. the A7V is very picky with generic ram, I put in some Infenion and everything worked fine. What kind of ram do you have.

I bought some Shika Ram...I paid more for it..was told was high quality...not familiar with it...I trust the place I bought it from a little further than I can throw them.

Everything in closed here today..hopefully tomorrow the store will be able to help me...Will probably end up returning it to them....

YES. You have to check your RAM. Nothing worse then sending the A7V back only to find out that the RAM you are using is incompatible. JonnyGURU showed me that the hard way.

Well...I got a new a7v and it didn't work any better...so I'm starting to think like the rest of you that it's either a problem with another component (RAM) or me :)

I bought the computer @ a store..which is where I got the Shikaram...they seemed very impressed with it..said they make less money on it...but it's the only way to go for Tbirds. The store is called DealsDirect, you can find their cool webpage @ http://www.dealsdirect.com/

I've dealt with them before and haven't had any complaints.

What have you heard about Shikaram????

I'll let you know what the problem is after they've fixed it and it's working.

Thanks for all the help
