A7N8X Memory... what/where to get, and CL2 vs CL2.5

hey everyone, i'm gonna get the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, and I need to know what kind of memory to get. i am planning to get two 256mb PC2700 DDR333 cards. i have heard that i should get CL2 rather than CL2.5, correct? and DDR333 is what i want, right?

So what kind (i'm thinking corsair or crucial... crucial is cheaper but is it much of a difference? and i can't seem to find CL2 crucial anywhere), and where should i buy it?

Thanks!

i found this at googlegear.com... is this the special faster XMS memory from corsair or just the regular one? corsair... is it ok to use the XMS? it looks to be XMS, but is that one CL2 or CL2.5?

thanks

That is a pretty good choice. I have never gone wrong with Corsair memory.
I run the XMS PC3200 Corsair, and it performs wonderful. It is pricy though.

CL2 is faster that 2.5. Corsair is great, fast memory. If you plan on overclocking Corsair is a good choice but not Crucial. If you don't want to overclock you could get Crucial, though it might be a little bit slower.

I just asked this same exact question on Sunday (search for posts by me in all forums in the past 3 days), and I got some good advise. I ended up buying one stick of Corsair CL2 512 MB PC-3200 from googlegear.com. I plan to buy another one in the near future so that I can take advantage of the dual channel feature of nForce2.

You don't currently need anything faster than PC-2700 (unless you plan to overclock), but I decided to go with PC-3200 because there was only a small price difference and I wanted to be able to upgrade my CPU to a 400 MHz Opteron (which, purportedly, will work in the A7N8X) when they come out, without having to get new RAM.

But no matter what speed, Corsair CL2 is a very good choice. Although for PC-2700, the Mushkin 222 may be a little better if you can find/afford it.

Umm what?! Opteron dosen't use Socket A how do you intend to pull that off?

0123456789876543210, if you intend on overclocking get PC3200 cl2 stuff, if you dont intend on overclocking Crucial is a fine choice to go with or whoever else offers decent DDR.

BTW Kingston HyperX stuff is pretty good and something you might want to consider if you go the overclocking route.

My bad, I meant to say Barton, not Opteron. The Barton core will be the next revision to the Athlon XP (Palomino -> Tbred A -> Tbred B -> Barton), right?

19 - Yes, that's correct. Barton is next and it should be compatible with nForce2 mobos.

0123456789876543210 - Again, brevity is a sign of wisdom, but whatever you want is cool with me. Check out my post (the fourth one in this thread) for my opinions on RAM. The only difference is that you definitely should get two sticks of RAM.
