Don't know if this is a mouse problem, mobo, WinXP or what but when I first boot up the system the mouse functions very erratically. Generally, I can't select anything with the mouse buttons. I thought there was a system hang so did the Cntl+Alt+Del trick to bring up the Task Manager. All I have to do is click on something within this window and the problem seems to fix itself...until the next time I boot, then I have to go through this fire drill again.

This is a brand new install, mobo and OS. Also, my first time working with WinXP so not certain what's going on.

Here's the pertininent setup info:

A7N8X Deluxe - current bios and nVidia drivers
MS Intellimouse w/IntelliEye, 1.0 USB optical mouse
WinXP - downloaded and installed all patches...I think. What a mess.

Well, don't quite understand it but fixed the problem by installing a new "MS Optical Mouse blue". For some reason my trusty Intellimouse w/Intellieye is incompatible with something. First time this happened. Went to MS's website and no mention of any problems. In fact, it was almost a script of revisionist history regarding the Intellieye. Could hardly find any mention of the device except in one location it was listed as discontinued. Have used this mouse with several other mobo's and Win98SE, WinME and Windows 2000, never a problem.

I guess there is a reason but not going to waste anymore time. However, if someone is sitting on this tidbit of useless info, please share.
