what is the difference in getting a 2.0 version since the new bios lets you do 400FSB with all versions? What changes were made to the board?

I'm thinking of ordering one, but to clarify, this has _no_ accessories correct? Who do I go about contacting to see about getting those seperately?

AFAIK only the 2.0 version supports 400FSB, at least that's what the ASUS website says.

And yes, no accessories included, none at all, just a bare mobo in a brown box.

yea, no software, no cables ... not even the little metal io shield that goes on the back to hold the usb/sound/mouse plugs etc.

difference between 1.0 and 2.0 ???

i don't think there is any different in features... but i think the 2.0 version is most stable with less bugs.

it uses a completely different set of drivers and different bios.

the 1.xxx version have/had alot of bugs... i dont' think the 2.0 version has all those.

PCB rev. 2.0 has better stability for 400 MHz FSB, while PCB rev. 1.6 or earlier have a small chance of staying at 400 MHz FSB.

Considering all the trouble with all sorts of memory I am hardly waiting for VIA KT600. With VIA, no matter all the other complaints, I have never had any memory problems.

ok...thanks for the info... I was just assuming from reading about the new bios. I'm not sure I want to risk ordering this and not getting a 2.0

Wow, they have 62 in stock. I wonder why they have so many. Do you think this was a big shipment of refurbs from Asus or returns to Newegg. That many refurbs usually means the boards had a lot of problems. Any comments?

To note, I don't think they guarantee a 2.0 version. Check the info on the $69 one...."FSB: 333/266/200MHz" meaning 1.04 rev. I'm sure they have some 2.0's in there too, but I would guess they have 1.04's and more of them then not.

The 2.0 board supported 400MHz from jump, the earlier boards are supposed to support it with a new bios, but YMMV it seems. Also,
Their is certain memory from Curcial that does not work on pre 2.0 boards. the 512MB PC2700 mods I believe.

I received a 1.6 version and with the 1004 bios flash I can attain the 400FSB. Mine came with the mobo only...nothing else!! I did need an I/O shield, so I called the RMA number on the ASUS website and asked the lady if they would send me one....she said no problem. 4 days later it was at my house!!!!

By the way...this is one great board...I dropped a Barton 2500+ in and got it up to 200*11..........SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!:D

No matter what I do with this MB, I keep getting memory errors. 8 different sets of memory, two different CPUs, two different PSU, different HD, etc. I was able to boot a few times, and then -crash-. This is my second A7N8X (via NewEgg). Second one was a 2.0. Nothing against NewEgg of course.

Any hints??

I did NOT have to pay anything. I'll have to get back to you with the phone number I called. I emailed them at Tech support first and the support guy emailed me back with the RMA phone number and that email is my home email address. I'll get it and post it later today.

I also know there was a guy on ebay selling them for like $6...I thought if I had to then I get them from him...but luckily I didn't.

For those of you that are having a hard time getting ASUS to send you a free I/O shield. THIS guy is selling them for $7.49 shipping included.

By the way...I also heard that what you get from ASUS for the $15 plus shipping is all the extra parts...ie. the USB addons and firewire addon etc...but I only heard that from another guy.

Sounds like a bad board.

I wonder if you can RMA it straight to Asus instead of sending it back to Newegg. Asus would probably send you a new one.

My office has dealt with a few RMA's to ASU(ck)S - they came back dirty and dusty, working but not even having the crap blown off from the prior user - YMMV.

I'd have to agree... they most likely will not send you back a new board. It will probably be a board that came back to them through RMA, which they (Asus) "fixed". Honestly, I don't buy Asus products anymore. Every Asus board I've owned had something wrong with it, mostly minor stuff.
