A7N266 VM networking trouble

Hi,
I just built my first system from scratch and used an Asus A7N266-VM mobo. Things went smoother than I had expected and my baby was alive in less than 6 hours. Now I am working out the details and having trouble with the onboard lan. Originally it wasn't system detected so I did 'add new hardware' and let the system use the windows drivers (win98). I tried to setup networking and got windows errors. Windows device manager shows an exclaimation. So I did a 'remove hardware', rebooted and went to 'add new hardware again'. This time I used the drivers on the mobo CD, which went a little odd because at one point I had to back-reference my win98 cd. When I tried nic again I still had same errors as before. Any suggestions out there, hopefully from someone else owning an a7n266?

There have been many posts in various forums regarding Win98 and this
motherboard. Most agree that the best solution is the WinXP OS.
The worst is the Win98 OS. If you're going to use Win98 make sure it's
Win98SE and use the drivers in the WinME directory on the CDRom.
They have to be manually installed. Follow the manual's appendix
instructions........Greg
.
BTW....I installed this MB about 10 days ago in a new build. WinXP easily
installed along with the CDRom drivers.................Greg

Yeah, I managed to get 98se to run properly on that board but it was like pulling teeth, XP was all gravy 🙂
