Hello guys, girls maybe? Been reading your site and found it very interesting, I know that you guys can help me. I decided that I was gonna' build myself a rig, Asus A7A266 mobo, 1.4 ghz T-bird, 512 DDR, GF2MX 32mb, SB LIVE!. 2 intake fans, 2 exaust fans, Thermo cool hs+ fan. Got the temp down to 52c full-on. This is the problem, games freeze as well as demos. Music cds with fmv freeze. At first I put htis down to the heat but now that I got that sorted out, I get this!! Do you think that I need to update the Bios? DX8 is on board. Whats the deal? :|

Thanks for the reply Wind. No lock-ups on anything else, played Max Payne till it froze and then checked Asus Probe, it was at 57. Is this still hot? From what I've read so far on this site it seems Im o.k.

When the system hanged, if u reboot immediately & played the game again....will it hanged in 10-15 mins ? Well, I ask bcoz I suspect tht the VGA card could be over heated.

CPU at 57C is still OK. Wht is ur case temp ?

Their is a small possibility that the RAM is faulty.

Also go into the BIOS and use the default settings or scale a few settings down a bit.

57 is a normal temp because my ASUS Probe utility sometimes reads up to 62. (The BIOS is always 10 degrees lower)

Wind is right about the Motherboard temp. Make sure that the fan on the North Bridge is spinning.

If none of this works, take out any other cards you have. (NIC, sound etc.)

There is no fan on the North Bridge.

If you have 2 DDR DIMMs, you must change the position of the unmarked jumper located at the end of the AGP Pro slot from 1-2 to 2-3 in order to supply enough voltage. Stability problems attributed to DDR RAM generally clear up after that.

You might also want to try the latest BIOS for the A7A266, version 1006 Final.

Also make sure that you have the ALi AGP drivers installed. There are no other chipset specific drivers needed.
