I am considering upgrading my old 1 Ghz Tbird and thought that I would be going to a P4 for sure since I would like to quiet down the PC if possible. I read a post recently talking about the A64 having some new speed adjustment on the fly business. This got me thinking and thus I have two real questions that I hoped you guys could help with...
1) If I am trying to build a quiet PC, would I be better off with the P4 or the A64?
2) Since I leave my PC on almost 24/7, how does the power consumption of either processor compare at idle and at full throttle? (At $0.10/ kWh, a 1 W difference translates to a savings of ~$0.876 per year. Not a huge difference but if there was a 30 or 40 W difference, it could help justify a 30 or 40 dollar price difference between two chips.)
I think that either processor will be more than fast enough for my needs, but I would simply like to remove the loud whirring from my office.
Thanks
