like many of those posting builds, i suffer from paralysis of analysis. i'm about ready to drop the hammer on this one, but, as always, i wouldn't make the decision without the OK from you folks. my big concern is typical: how well can i expect the processor / mobo / memory to get along? here's the list so far:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
AOpen "AK86-L" K8T800
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200
ANTEC Performance Plus Case with 430W Power Supply
ATI RADEON 9800PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP
NEC 8X Silver DVD+RW/-RW Drive
Alps Silver 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive

thanks to those that respond and/or don't smack their heads when they see this post.

Nice choices. You have nothing to worry about. You picked a solid PS, which is the cornerstone of any build. Great mobo, matched memory sticks and an awesome videocard.

Just one small problem though. How am I supposed to get to your house to play on your new rig? ;)

Looks good. Have fun.

How about going with an Nforce 3 250 board? Chaintech has one for $90, and Gigabyte has a colofull one for $135. Both have working PCI/AGP locks. Also as for ram, you can get some OCZ PC3200 Platinum EL 1GB Kit for $264 (from monarchcomputer). This runs at tight timings of 2-2-3-5 and has warranty with up to 2.8V. Im sure the cosair stuff costs just as much.

it doesn't appear that the AOpen board supports AGP/PCI lock. i'm not all that interested in overclocking - is this going to present an issue?

if your not going to oc then doesn't matter if the pci is locked. get what you want not worrying about a pci lock

Why don't you spend the extra cash for a X800pro to get more than twice the performance boost? Seems like a systemlike that, the 9800pro will be the bottleneck, or in other words cap the performance.
