A64 motherboard for the non-overclocker?

Been reading these boards/reviews/etc for the last couple of days, and the motherboard that seems to stand out the most would be the DFI motherboards, but every recommendation talks about their overclocking ability and little else. For someone who plans to pretty much leave their board at stock settings, is that still the case? Are there other boards that I should be considering? Not looking for SLI, but am looking for one with PCI-E.

The Asus A8N-E might be a good choice. Asus has always been rock solid for me. It is lacking on-board firewire however, not sure how important that is for you. Also Foxconn has a sub $100 NF4 Ultra board, and they are reliable .

I really can't say what I'm looking for!

Its been awhile since I've been motherboard shopping, I don't remember it being like this, all of the A64 motherboards seem to be nearly identical in performace. Good for us consumers I guess

I've just had a perfectly positive build result from the ECS NForce4-A939. Good performance, solid stability even with all three PCI slots taken (3ware RAID, SCSI and SB!Live). Used an X800 (no power connector!) and a Venice 3200+. (The SB!Live has been ditched in favor of the onboard sound. Games run smoother now.)

Chaintech makes good cheap boards. But I like the asus a8n-e for reliability.

i think for the most part you could basically use any board.


i'd stay away from the foxconn microatx nforce4 board. apparently that one only allows ram that runs at 2.5 volts and not the now much more common for pc3200 2.6v
