2.4 ghz ?? I hope Anand has reviews tomorrow and it lives up to it. Of course since there is NO P4 at that speed (without supercooling), it would be hard to gage.

It is my understanding that A4000+ is pretty much FX-53 or 2.4ghz 1mb cache. Are these still built on old 0.13 tech? With 0.09 winchesters entering the stream for low end 939, how long can we expect before the .09 process reaches the upper range? I would imagine the 0.13 is exhausted much past 2.6ghz.

Just look at a FX53 review. That's all it is.

Not really a joke. It's PR rating it quite accurate. A64 is 1.5:1 to p4. Proof is a A643000 running at 2000Mhz is equal to a P4 @3000 in all the benches I've seen when scores are normlized. Next you add 5% for 1 mb lvl 2 since benches bear this out as well and 5% for dual channel for similar reasons.

2400 x 1.5 x 1.05 x 1.05 = 3969 ~4000

I just read 2 reviews. You are right Zebo, looks good. And the FX-55 is a killer ! Did you see the stock cooler for the 55 ? Factory heat pipes !

yeah me think amd is going to have it easy for awhile or atleast until intel realeases its dual core p4 (man thats going to be one hot motha). but by then I bet amd will be kicking out atleast a 2.0 or 2.2 ghz dual core a64 which should best anything intel will be able to have out

What I'm interested in is if Intel will even fight for the top of the line chip.

They are behind AMD. As far as I know, there is NO plans to release a chip which will compare with the speed of FX55. Intel will switch to dual core, which are *slower* at processing single threads (which most programs are atm). It might actually be a few years (2, probably more) before intel has any chip which compares in speed with the FX55.

AMD, on the other hand, will probably continue to increase speeds of their chips, at least in the near future (since their current design allows for that - or does it?).

Dunno, next year will definetally be an interesting year.

Wait untile the P4 EE at 3.7 on a 1066 fsb comes out shortly and we will see. I bet it will be close.

They are going to have to come down in price...

Athlon64 4000+ = $745.00
Athlon64 FX-53 = $810.00

at newegg...

I would think that the unlooked multiplier is worth the extra $65, and I think most other people buying procs in this price range would as well.

nobody serious actually uses the unlocked milti though. it's nice to easily find your cpu's max speed, but chances are your fsb will go up and your multiplier will go down(possible with all athlon 64's) to get the best performance which comes from fast ram, htt, and cpu. anybody in this price range should be getting good ram, and the cpu will doubtfully be unable to keep up with the ram overclock without extreme cooling

In what? encoding? Or did you miss total domination by AMD in everything else in latest reviews?

Add to the fact these chips run cooler, quieter, and with less power makes Intel look pretty lame. heheh that was a pun

AMD is really getting on the ball with their coolers. The stock coolers for the A64s have been impressive. I don't necessarily try to be an AMD fanboy, but AMD has been underrated for years and I love seein an underdog come out and mop the floor with it's much bigger competition.

How much did you spend on your EE? $1000? yes these puny CPUs and their tiny prices, then again wood is pretty abundant so they should be cheaper.

Hope my Zalman 7000 is enough for the FX-55. My FX-53 runs just fine with the Zalman set to low at 5V.

Intel has never had the top performing chip since the athlon 64 came out. Intel better get it in gear as they have lost like 2% market share since the athlon 64 came out, and they are losing more still.
