a64 3400+ s754 vs 3400+ s939

has anyone actually compared these? as far as i know the s939 3400+ is available only through tiger direct and newegg, and can be purchased only with a supported mobo (in td's case a8v and av8).

as far as i know, the only differences as far as specs go is that the s939 one supports dual channel memory. i still haven't gotten my chip, and googling didn't help much but i guess it's basically a 3500+ but with a 1600mhz htt rather than 2000mhz.

now that im actually thinking about it, i wonder if it was a good buy or not. lol

Just get A64 3200+ for $195 on 90nm and overclock it on socket 939.

I'd say the 200+ speed decrease is worth the longer upgrade path, especially given the winchester's overclocking record lately.

sad thing is i sorta jumped and ordered it already lol. what can i say, my old axp 2700+ died and i was in a rush to buy a new one. what i ended up with was that tigerdirect (yeah yeah they're horrible blah blah) deal for a 3400+ and asus a8v deluxe. i guess im looking into it kinda late... all my searching only led me to believe that it performs about as well as a 3500, just with the (unnoticable i hear) htt decrease

Heck even the 90nm 3500+ is around same price as the 130nm sckt 754 and sckt 939 3400+'s....It in test I have seen is better....

upgradabiltiy is BS unless you are into buying new CPU every 2 month 🙂 I always just do mobo+ CPU switch. On the other hand, invest in a good pair of RAM will go a long way.... (well..not really right now since DDR2 is around the corner)
