I just finished setting up this A64 3200+ with an Aopen AK89 Max (NF3 150). Thermalright SLK 948U with 92 mm Panaflo M. 2 x 256 Mushkin Lvl II PC-3500 RAM. Powercolor 9700 Pro.

After playing with settings for about 30 minutes, I am currently running 10x230 (@ stock voltages) via BIOS with temps at 32/28 C (via MBM). 1M Superpi time is 38 seconds. I'll have to push harder to find out what temps are at load, but for things like 3DMark2001 the max cpu temp is about 36C. I am very pleased with temps -- nice and cool. I also played a bit with Clockgen. I have not tested yet for limits or stability in any serious way, although I have yet to have any experience that even feels unstable yet. Rigorous testing will come later. Any tips on overclocking this setup are welcomed. In particular, I'm not sure what to make of LDT. I am going to have to do a little reading.

Anyway, I am very stoked with the AK89 MAX. This was the easiest setup I have done. The board has a clean layout and just plain worked without issue from the get go. It booted right up with memory by spd @ 6-2-2-2. Voltage settings are limited, although I hope there will be some extra room with a BIOS update or hack. With the mwave $20 rebate, this board is just under $100. This is my first Aopen board, and so far I am very pleased. I would even go so far as to say it seems to be equal to better quality than my previous Abit and Epox boards. It feels solid, if that makes any sense. Time will tell though.

I am also quite pleased with the A64 3200+. It is just plain fast even at stock speeds, noticably faster at stock than my Barton 2500+ @ 2300MHz. The A64 3200+ @ 2300MHz is very fast. But I will say that although the speed is obvious, it isn't crazy faster, just nice and fast. This cpu/mobo combo cost me about $350. A good 2500+ Barton or mobile Barton and nForce2 board costs about $200. Bang for buck, the A64 is still a little hard to justify. I could have saved about $50 by going with an A64 3000+, but the 10x multipler (9x for 3000+) and beefy L2 cache swayed me.

Actually the 3000+ has the same multiplier as the 3200+... but it has half the L2 cache, hence the lower model number.

You are right. Thanks for the catching my error there. I was reading about something at 1.8 with a 9x multiplier. Mobile A64 maybe? Oh well.

I look forward to seeing where I can get this setup.

Yes, I believe there's a mobile A64 that runs at 1.8 Ghz that eMachines is selling.

The Opteron x44 also runs at 1.8 Ghz.
