Since this is my only upgrade path with this socket would there be a noticeable performance increase bumping up to 2.4 or am i wasting money? BTW the rig isn't even a year old so i don't want to tear it apart. Thanks.

You can overclock your current 3000+ to ~2.5GHz for FREE, so don't do these sort of pointless upgrades.

Get a new graphics card? For the price of 3700+ you can get agp/pcie asrock board and A64 3000/3200+ venice. Those will usually overclock to 2.3-2.4ghz if not higher and you'll have future PCIe and dual-core upgrade paths.

Not exactly

My 3000+,bought December 2003 :p , will not go above 2.1ghz.

Hopefully I will be upgrading to X2 3800+/Asrock combo soon :D

If you can find a good deal on it, get a 3400+. It runs at the same MHz as the 3700+ but just has less cache. With A64 chips, more MHz is always good. The 3400+ has been seen for under $140 brand new, so see if you can pick up a used one or a new one for around that price, then sell your old one. That should upgrade you for around $50 (difference). You probably won't notice a huge difference, but you may sometimes. Dunno, depends on what apps you run.

I'd opt for a new motherboard....
(The Asrock)
That'd allow you to overclock, thereby getting your CPU upgrade, and it'd leave room for a PCI-E card in the [hopefully near] future. :)
