A64 3000 OC tips

Heyo. I'm having lots of trouble OCing my A64 3000. Computers hate me 😛 - It won't boot up stable past 2300. I've tried just about everything i can think of, lowered the HT, tried different mem/fsb ratios, different multipliers, different bioses, raised the Vcore of course, dunno what else to try. It used to be stable at 2.4 ghz, but that's another story. The original goal was 2.5 ghz, doesn't look like that's going to happen though. Anyways, what settings can i try that might help? My temps are ok. My CPU vcore fluctuates maybe more than it should, i'd rather it just stay at a certain vcore.

strange....

you definitely have the hardware to achieve 2.5 speeds

i got mine to 2.5 from straight fsb to 250 and dropping ram default speed to 166 Mhz @ 1T.

Its not strange. SOme cpus goes that high, others dont.. I guess you have bad luck.. try increasing vcore a bit more pherhaps though..

Differant/crappier power supply perhaps. This could cause the power fluctuations which could limit overclocking.

My last PSU (Antec 350w) died when i was at 2.4, so i bought a new one (Enermax Noisetaker 420w), and it's a better one actually, rails are much better. It doesn't seem like i'd need more than 420w, since i don't have much in my case. Vcore was fluctuating a lot with my old PSU as well. Anyway i might be able to freeze the vcore?

Also, it might be kinda weird that i can get here at 2300 without changing the HT or the Mem/fsb ratio, but if i do change them it doesn't help at all. It's hard to believe that i've ever since i found out about overclocking i've got 2 of the worst possible overclocking CPUs maybe ever made 😛 - Just my luck though. If I really can't OC this chip anymore i'll just have to stick with it at 2300 for another 2 years, until i can afford another horrible overclocking chip =p

Anyone have some settings to try? Different multipliers don't seem to work well, but i haven't tried them all. Just 9x and 8x. Using 10x now.

I've hit the same wall you have 2300mhz is prime stable but 2350 is game stable. Since I only game on this comp I run at 2350mhz. What week was your chip made maybe AMD had a bad OCing period with their chips.

I'm not sure what week it was made, but the 5 letter code is CBAEC, the other person i've seen with it also hit the wall at 2350. It's a bummer because it seems to be a pretty rare kind, but somehow i ended up with one =/

You may have more in your case than you think, go to pimprig.com and download overclockulater, it will tell you just how much power you may be drawing.
