Yes I realize they fulfill different purposes and really aren't comparable :p

But will the dreamliner ever fly?

I mean, delays after delays, they just managed to get the engine going.
They think it will fly by the end of June.

Correct. Airbus delivered their first plane to a customer two years after promised. Delays with massive R&D/manufacturing projects like these are practically the norm.

Yes, the two airliners serve different purposes. However, I think that part of the reason Airbus decided to realize the concept of a "superjumbo" in the form of the A380 was simply to prove that it could be done. In this regard, they must be given their due. By the same token, which airlines have bought most (if not all) of these planes so far? Only the "top tier" ones like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qantas etc. It's important for these airlines to be able to say, "we've got one of these big boys".
