A year free AOL if you bought a Gateway 6400 (????)

If the letter I just got is correct, this is a hot deal for Gateway
6400 buyers...

I just got a letter in the mail from Gateway reminding me that
because I bought a computer from Gateway (a 6400 server, actually) that
I get a free YEAR of AOL.

I toss those free 1 month AOL subscriptions away like the rest of you.
But a free year? Well, that wouldn't be such a bad thing as a backup
when other connections fail...

HOWEVER, it is not clear to me if I REALLY get a free year. As I
read the letter, I am supposed to log on using some AOL link on the
desktop that, of course, doesn't exist since the computer didn't
come with an installed OS.

So the question is: Is this letter correct, or is the free year of AOL
only for purchasers of consumer computers with an installed OS?

Also, do I get a free year for EACH 6400 purchased? (If so, I'll
gladly give away my other "years" to friends).

I know this plays into the old joke: What's first prize: A free
year of AOL. What's second prize: TWO free years of AOL. But
actually free AOL for a year isn't completely evil, even if AOL
is...

I called Gateway when I got my letter, and they made it sound like it was a mistake, that I should not have gotten it. I called AOL, and they said that since the Special AOL icon was not loaded on my machine, they would manually setup my machine in their system, and needed my order #.

I did not pursue it further... Didn't want to end up getting a bill from AOL for a year of service when Gateway said no... (or 4, 1 year bills for each of the 6400;s I bought)

I hate 'em (called me on a Saturday morning after I cancelled and worked all night before,

but my mom sure could use that to connect (she lives in the country and the local services
are suck)

I love my gateway server....... now if only I can get those 80g hard drives to be recced correctly

The one year free from AOL only applies to home systems. It itsnt offered on Business workstations or Servers. Letters were probobly sent out by mistake.

When I got DSL, they really pissed me off when I call them to cancel because they kept stalling and stalling and I ended up paying 3 extra months of A(_0_)L membership fee. They can't seem to understand that I CAN live without them.
