While thinking about how successful the spreadfirefox site worked, I thought to try my hand at a site to spread open source software and promote not using warezed copies of things. I have plenty of hosting and design skills. I would include linux install guides, guides to different software, and more. Have any ideas? Want to help?

http://sourceforge.net/

"SourceForge.net is the world's largest Open Source software development website, with the largest repository of Open Source code and applications available on the Internet. SourceForge.net provides free services to Open Source developers."

isn't that what you're trying to do?

(not trying to discourage, but just help :))

sourceforge and freshmeat aren't aimed at average joe computer user.

i think the idea of a site thats aimed towards average joe computer user listing open source alternatives for common boxed software is a good idea.

I'm looking for that exactly, just didn't know how to word it.
Besides, freshmeat anyone can submit to. I want something that an individual reviews, and a 30 or 40 year old likes and accepts.

doesn't sound to difficult then. mostly informative with, i assume, lots of links to actual software.

perhaps you could do reviews/comparisons of well known software vs. open-source counterparts. (like ms office vs. open office or star office).

Exactly the idea! It would also help move people away from warez, and develop more of an intrest in open source, maybe get more people intrested in coding, so that open source can be really mainstream. What I need is ideas, and help.

I am here looking for help with design(maybe) , ideas, and people to review things and write guides. This is after all one the the biggest and best forums on the net, have been reading posts here for years, but never bothered to register.

I hate reading comments like that. It's like saying "Your community is great, but I never bothered to help out. I only registered because I need help." It's kind of disheatening. :p

If you're willing to send me hardware, I'll write reviews and guides. ;)

XD, it would have to get pretty big first, but I would be gald to once we were big enough to get samples. Well, I did post when I felt that my input was valuable, but I only amounted to a few hundred posts on a different account...

Read almost all of those before, but most of them focous on buisness users needs. I just want something for the home user. Does it double space? Does it make nice graphs and charts? Those kind of things. Not what a survery at a company said.

Know anyone here who might want to help?
