After many years of having Electronics Aquisition Syndrom (EAS).. I decided what better time to rid myself of these things than when my wife an I decided to try and pay off our wedding loan.

We took out a loan in March of 2006 for $5k to pay for our wedding (none of our parents could afford it)... the loan was at a 26% interest rate. I didnt want that hanging over my head, but at the same time we really wanted to get married after being together for 7 years.

So, now back to 2007.. we were getting back a healthy IRS refund, and I was still about $1500 shy of paying the loan completely off (believe it or not we had only paid $200 on the principal). So, I decided to do a "cleansing" if you will.. All of my worldly possessions would be cleansed to help me pay off this debt.

I sold the following:
My Dell dual core main computer
My 19" Widescreen Samsung LCD
My handcrafted modded xbox in pc case
my saitek keyboard
All of my xbox games
my gamecube
my ps2
my xbox 360

So, after all that I am happy to annouce that yesterday I was able to completely pay off my loan.. now, the humbling part!! I am typing to you on the only computer I own (well, my wife still has hers..didn't dare sell that:eek:)..a IBM 390x (400mhz celly, 128mb ram).. I have absolutely no game systems and nothing to do... In hindsight, I didn't really need all of those electronic goodies..we are all kinda spoiled by technology...but it sure was fun:D

Cliffs:
Took out a high interest loan
Sold all my electronic stuff, except a 400mhz lappy
Paid the loan off
Now have nothing to do except ponder life

Bad that you got a loan with that kind of interest, my worst credit card isn't that high! Hard to believe a credit union or some place wouldn't give you a signature loan or something for that much. :(

Good that you got it paid off, though.

Congrats on your "cleansing"! The new age party line is that letting go of stuff and kicking material crap to the curb opens you up to new and better stuff.

I wouldn't try this with your wife, however. Alba is no doubt taken anyway.

One last thing: That loan! That interest rate! Yakuza? Big Louie? Dewy, Cheatem and Howe?

In Denmark, it actually pays off to have a debt due to the complicated tax laws. Not with 26% interest, though.
