A way to break a CRT monitor?

my friend, who is on the weird side, wants to know how to blow out a crt computer monitor without physically damaging it or being electrocuted. he wants to throw it off of a 3 story building, but he has to show that it is completely broken. it is an old crappy 14 inch crt that is about 6 years old. any suggestions?

wait wait wait....he wants to break a monitor WITHOUT causing physical damage to it, yet at the same time, he wants to drop it off a 3 story building?

You and your friend do realize that dropping it off a 3 story building will result in lots of physical damage.

😕

qft

Open the thing up and rip some cords..haha.

Actually, a bit of windex going through the top holes should do it. It would corrode the inside.

Do you just want it to look like you didn't damage it, or does it not have to be damaged by you... somehow?

same thing I was thinking

Hmmm... what about covering up all the ventilation holes and running it inside a cardboard box for a while and see if it burns out?

I will translate:

I believe what this guy wants is as follows:

He has an old monitor. It still works, so his parents will not let him completely destroy it (he wishes to drop it off the roof, for whatever reason).

His idea: damage it non-physically so he can damage it physically.

Fantastic.

Now that that is cleared up, my suggestion:

Since it is so old, it is bound to have dated components. Plug it in, turn it on, and just shake the crap out of it. It will more than likely disalign the tube inside.

Secondly, more dangerously, plug it in, drop in water - preferably with your friend as well.

Switch on. Pour H2O.

Max.
