Uh why not get a DVD-ROM drive (suprised you don't already have one) and some playback software? Then simply buy a TV tuner card and use that for viewing/recording TV programming.

1)Buy a TV-Tuner/Capture card. A good basic one is a Hauppage PVR150; found for less than $70. TV Tuner with a VERY GOOD MPEG encoder for capture; use it like a TiVo.
2)Toss the DVD Player; buy a newer DVD-ROM (or even a DVDRW) with PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Dave, :D

digitalsnare, WTF are you talking about? If you meant "CPU resources", please refer to the part of my post when I spoke of a MPEG encoder...ie hardware encoder. Little to no resources.

alright, that Hauppage PCI card looks like it would work. Would getting the one with 2 TV in ports be better?
