I'm pretty thrilled with my Samsung HL-S 5687.

Lots of complaints on AVS Forum on the Sony SXRD with green blobs. I'm guessing that they are complaining about what Whoozyerdaddy described.

I'm also guessing SED and now that Canon has confirmed they will produce them, I'll be interested to see how they look.

It's not as pronounced with the yellowing but it's there. Also, there are obvious sections of the picture where the blue has corroded faster than the screen as a whole. Its a real phenomenon.

The TI test likely created results a little faster than real life, but the deterioriation is real.

meh, that's why I get a cheap service plan.

I'm sure you know what you are talking about, but after what....6 years of misinformation people still think plasmas have a limited lifespan and just spontaneously self destruct? I think it was posted earlier that there is no perfect technology. Gee, my 2002 pioneer elite 42" plasma is still looking great...wasn't it supposed to burst into flames, attack my kids at gun point and then release gases to kill the entire family by now?

I just smell the same kind of manufacturer ploy here (TI, not mits)

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my mits diamond display (65918 I think?), all my friends with very expensive displays still marvel at it. But it's time for a display to accept what I give it, heck...let alone take it.

Uh..SXRD and SED aren't even comparable.

SED will undoubtedly beat everything on the market in terms of IQ, unless that new laser stuff comes out.

I don't know why you're taking such a patronizing tone - as I said, I haven't seen SED, nor has the overwhelming majority of the enthusiast population. At the moment, IMO SXRD has the best image quality of anything on the market.

Sorry my tone rubbed you the wrong way. That was not my intention.

Still, having read about (including reports from folks who have seen SED displays) and seen pictures of SED tech, I have every reason to believe that it will have better IQ than every other tech currently on the market, along with other advancements. The main drawbacks being price and availability...

Ours is fantastic. We looked at the Sony A2000 sxrd models, but IMO, the Samsung looked better.

IMHO his tone wasn't patronizing at all but it doesn't matter as he apologized if that was your perception.

That being said I freakin' love the Sony SXRD. I ended up buying the Toshiba Cinema Series 50HMX96 because:

It was $1600 vs $2200 for the 50" Sony SXRD (3 months ago)
I'm a Toshiba fanboi.

If I could do it all over again I might have splurged and bought the SXRD. I'm sure by 2010 I'll have bought one or two.

Ross,

You make a good point. But it isn't always about the best deal. It's about the best quality, regardless of the cost. THe OP questioned "What's better than sony SXRD"

Just like many on this board they'll gladly spend 3K+ on a freaking computer, but be cheap arses when it comes to audio/video.

Puzzling really. There are those that are into audio/video and those that are into computers. I still don't think the computer guys "get it" yet, as they generally follow what they "heard" or "what I've seen" - when in actuality it's nothing more than what they read on a forum without first hand knowledge.

True but I'm far from an A/V buff as we use our TV speakers, OMG OH NOOOES!

If I could do it all over again I probably would have waited and bought the 50" Sony SXRD. But for the money I paid, I am extremely happy with my Toshiba 50" DLP.

The XBR2/3 is FREAKING AWESOME

I think they issued a firmware upgrade for that problem.

Do yourself a favor, if you're out looking at TVs to replace your Diamond check out the 732 & 831 series TVs from Mits. (NOT the 731/631/531 series)
