Two meter winspan? Minigun the sucker. But the article says small quadcopter and not a rc plane.

Regardless of what the article says they are absolutely using the models I posted. If I had a few of those lobbed at me full of explosives and nails I'd use whatever means necessary to stop it getting to me!

The most likely ally in this case is Israel.

The most likely ally is some militia in Iraq.

Before everyone gets the panties in a bunch over spending, this is more a discussion on how to deal with future threats and the patriot vs drone was more a "set the tone" for the discussion kinda thing.
The US has a few projects under way for taking care of all the little wee drones.
Lasers and electronic warfare stuff. Even have a couple of those anti-drone shotguns on order as well. But the overall discussion was to highlight the fact that securing airspace is more than just protecting against military assets such as planes and "big boy military vehicles".
Crap like OTC toys are now becoming threats where right sized solutions need to be developed (and paid for)
This is a "give us money to deal with a changing landscape" speech.

It's bullshit though.

Toys becoming military threats (small UAV's already have a 100 year history in warfare) just demonstrates the absolute absurdity of the US military. When funding for developing solutions is unlimited everything becomes a threat.

Eh. I'm not sure that I follow you here.

Its not that toys are a threat. Its that nail bombs are a threat.

Same bullshit.

Nail bombs have been a threat since the beginning of bombs.

How does that fit into the General's speech regarding "Concepts of the Future"?

While focusing on shooting down missiles we somehow forgot about how to defend against hand grenades?

Being able to fly nail bombs to a target very cheaply with no danger to the bomber is not a thing thats been around since the beginning of bombs though.

No we didn't forget. The defense against hand grenades is to keep the enemies further away than throwing distance, which this completely fucks up.

That's my take on it. So when do I get my roof-mounted Patriot battery to take out morons who don't know how to pass safely?

Since Patriot is ground to air, a better choice would probably be a NASAM or Griffin. Possibly a Hellfire.
