this shit makes no sense. so nothing is something, but nothing is nothing only because we can't see it? *headasplodes*

Yeah - amazing what you can think up because you've study a bunch of books and paid a lump sum of money to get a degree to show that you are smart. 😉

Some believe there is only 1 molecule [which was formed at the beginning of time] which makes up the entire universe. The belief is that since molecules can share the same space - then there is only 1 molecule [which of course is travelling at an excessively fast speed].

While others believe time has always been here and our universe was formed by 2 other universes on a different plane of existence colliding into each other.

It'd be freakin amazing if we could go back in time and see how the universe actually was formed.

Well religion definitely gives more understanding to people about other people.
😱

Sorry for the bump. I found this thread googling for Lawrence Krauss' "stars" quote. I read the whole thread and this caught my attention.

So religion gives more understanding to people about other people?

Okay.

Let's take Islamic beliefs for example. Are the people in Amazonian tribes, African tribes, South Pacific Island tribes, et cetera who live their whole lives naked (you've seen them in National Geographic and in documentaries), are these people immoral and disgusting? Don't you just wanna wrap them all in black cloth from head to toe?
They have been naked everyday and have been so for generations, comfortably communicating with one other without being scared of each others' body parts and can control their temptations.
What gives any person of Islamic faith the right to tell others they are wrong showing X amount of skin and what they should wear? (ex: Yousef al-Khattab telling England to "fix your women")

Is this understanding people? Or is this a misunderstanding of fear and not wanting to learn how the human brain works (biology/neuroscience/psychology/etc)?

Christianity and gays. Let's condemn them all homosexuals to hell... because a book from many many years ago says so! Great understanding!

Not gonna go into a rant on that, but you can see how far it has gone: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36376840/ns/world_news-africa/

Science has determined that the chicken had to come before the egg, but where did the chicken come from ?
And when you figure that out, where did that come from ? Human minds are too linear so I doubt we will ever understand things like time and the universe. Even the thought that everything comes from something causes an infinite amount of answers. Understanding the universe completely and everything it contains to the human brain would be like explaining nuclear physics to a dog.
