A truly stupid processor upgrade question...

A friend wants to take a P4 2.4 processor with a 133 fsb and put it into a system running a p4 2.0 with a 100 fsb. Both systems are using the i850 chipset, the only difference is the fsb, one at 100 and the other at 133.

What does this mean and will it pose a problem?

If the mobo with the p4 2.0 does not support a 133mhz fsb, the 2.4 chip will run at 1.8ghz.

are they the same socket?
does that system support a 133 bus? if not then that p4 will run slower. about 25% slower on clock then it is now.

I would have him check and see which revision of the 850 he has. if it is simply an 850 on the board with the 400mhz fsb, then you'll probable have the original recipe which doesnot offical support a 133/533 bus. if he has the newer model, the 850e, (or the tender roast as it has been called) it should be all and dandy. use cpuid to check the chipset version :D

How do I know if it will support a 133 bus?
I know the fsb is 100/400 - but does that mean it CANNOT support a 133/533 fsb?
I'm pretty sure the chipset is the original 850, btw...I'll check when I get home.
