A TRIBUTE to my friend that died a HERO. More details inside.

here's the scoop. we finally heard from some of the people that were there. it will probably hit New Jersey area news in the next couple of days.

the kids were swimming, the rip tides started to come in, so Brian (good bball player but not a very good swimmer) went in after the kids. he was able to keep them afloat untill some other people on the shore were able to get them to shore w/ rope and floatation device.

he was the last one in the water. they were pulling him in when another riptide started and took him under. by the time they got him to shore it was too late. they tried cpr on him for 45 minutes to no avail.

He was in the TRUEST sense of the word a HERO.

I'm smiling because I'm glad you realized how great your friend's sacrafice was. I'm sure you and his family are in mourning - but you should be very proud of him! Make sure his spirit and sacrafice live on! May his soul rest in peace...

I have to second that. I know that in times of loss it's hard to try to smile and look on the bright side (I lost my father to a heart attack at age 6 and a girlfriend to leukemia at age 25), however you need to celebrate his life. The type of person that made such a selfless sacrifice is truly a hero and is in a better place now.

God bless him and all the others like him.

Yikes 10 kids?! That's really amazing. And you say that Brian was not a good swimmer??

I don't normally attend church except when going home (to maintain peace with my parents), but the youth pastor related Brian's story to us this morning in his sermon, and I remembered this thread. As I understand it Brian was a youth pastor at a church in New Jersey, and took his kids to El Salvador for a mission trip, and this happened near the end of their trip. A tragic death but an honorable life.

I honestly believe that an act this unselfish, this heroic is never without purpose. These children lived, and will grow up to do great things in this world because of your friend.

Yes I heard about his story in church. I guess it is the same Brian. Everyone tells the story a little differently though. I know some people who are going to his funeral today. I heard he was a good person. He died a hero at least.

yes, stories always change with the telling.

There is to be a memorial service for him tonite at the New Jersey Korean Church of Seventh-day Adventist in Rahway, NJ.

the Funeral service will be held Monday. the body is being brought back from El Salvador today.
