the fry's in austin is music-themed, because austin is titled "the live music capital of the world". they have a player grand piano on the inside.

you would think that would be the theme for the austin fry's, but alas it is some music theme. the front of the store is a huge piano. but fry's is a pretty great place. oh, on a down note they took out all the pr0n magazines from the austin fry's :(

One thing I found odd was that they sell porn - strange to see guys prowling through double-penetration DVDs in the middle of a mainstream store.

yah, same here. It was my first time in frys. I did not even intend to go down to it but I was across the street waiting for Cirque Du Soleil to start (we had an hour) so I dragged my wife over and looked. After 45 min I walked out with two cans of compressed air... thats it. The prices did not really impress me and the organization was horrible, but ah well, thats what you get from a long-time internet shopper

EDIT: You know, the renton store does not really seem to have a theme. It does have the grand piano but renton (and Seattle in the greater area) is known for the birth of grunge (correct sp?) not really piano appropriate. Ah well

In order to get a good deal at Frys, you gotta follow the sales ads. Some of the deals are amazing, some aren't. Anyway, if they do it the same way in Seattle as they do down in Portland, check the Times for ads about 4 days a week. The ads down here a constant cycle. Mondays is a 1 full page black-and-white ad on the 3rd page of the front section, Wednesdays is a 1 full page color ad on the back page of the Sports section, Fridays and Sundays have a full color 4 page pull out.
Nothing too terribly hot today... you could get a 52x CD burner for $39.99 with no rebates, an AthlonXP 2200+ plus ECS mobo combo for $84.99 no rebate, and a 160GB Maxtor with 8MB buffer for $79.99 after $40 MIR or a 80GB WD 8MB drive for $49.99 after $40 MIR. Some other deals too but (like I said) nothing to burn your fingers today.

edit: the Wilsonville, OR store doesn't have a theme either... I think because it used to be one of those Incredible Universe stores which Frys bought like 6-7 years ago.

I guess I was just expecting great prices on everything and not specific sale items. It was a foolish hope... ah well. I will be on the lookout for those adds. I just saw one today in the Times but I'm not sure what page it was in. Thanks for the info

Fry's is like a big huge electronic heaven. They sell everything from computers to electronics to tv's, vcrs, cameras, even appliances etc.. basically EVERYTHING electronic. The good thing about Fry's is the selection. the BAD thing about Fry's are the idiots that work there. Basically, if you know what you're doing and you know what you want.. then it's PERFECT! but if you're a newbie just shopping, then er.. go somewhere else. The prices are GREAT! but the service sucks.

This is the Fountain Valley store and the theme is roman. Each Fry's has a different theme to it.
