So Khaman Maluach, who in any normal times would be a top 7-8 pick in the NBA draft, might end up deported since Fuhrer Trump and Secretary Marco Bormann are revoking all visas for people from South Sudan. All kinds of teams were going to want this man being an athletic and agile 7'2" bigman with great defensive awareness who will also be an outstanding lob threat on offense.

Pro sports are one of the nice things we can enjoy in peaceful times but doesn't look like we're too far from losing them too thanks to our cultural revolution in Shithole America. It won't stop with Maluach and South Sudan.

I just wonder when most of the NBA's top talent goes overseas to play for teams like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Panathinaikos, etc to enjoy living in a stable democracy. Of the top 10 players in the NBA, half of them are from other countries including the top 4 (I don't think anyone would argue against them being the top 4 in the league) as well as the top young prospect (Wembanyama).

1. Nikola Jokic (Serbia)
2. Shai Gilgous-Alexander (Canada)
3. Luka Doncic (Slovenia)
4. Giannis Antetokoumpo (Greece)

5. Jayson Tatum (US)
6. Steph Curry (US)
7. Victor Wembanyama (France)
8. LeBron James (US)
9. Kevin Durant (US)
10. Anthony Edwards (US)

If you've seen the projections on what Wemby's future "supermax" contract will look like, he's not leaving the NBA.

Unless I'm mistaken, none of those Euro teams can pay anywhere near NBA max deal money.

Even second-tier money (think Mikal Bridges or outright mistakes like Jordan Poole) is already pretty frothy, and will jump further as those new media dollars flow in over the next decade.

Or even worse... going to South America living a stable economy (except for Venezuela and Bolivia) despite the insecurities

Can't get a supermax contract if they won't let in the country.

I don't see Wemby being as money hungry as say Michael Jordan. He always wanted to play in San Antonio but at some point if Trump decides fuck France half the fanbase in San Antonio will flip on Victor immediately, the exact same way they have on Popovich. Our right wing fanbase is so ridiculous I remember them booing when Wang Zhi Zhi, the first Chinese player in the NBA, when he checked into a game. When Trump starts poisoning his cult against Europe I could see lots of the top stars walking.

Wembanyama is already here, and he'd easily get one of those "genius" visas they once gave to Melania Knaus. 🤣

Wemby is projected to one day sign the first $100M/yr annual average extension. I'm not saying all he cares about is money and TBH some of the French athletes do seem pretty aware of social issues. It would just take an incredible amount of principle to leave the NBA over politics, so I'll believe it when I see it.

And like I suggested, you'd want a viable alternative and there is none in terms of both stature and economics.

I could see a guy retiring early like Barry Sanders did, but that's after he's already banked a lot of money for a solid decade.

He's here now, but the season is almost over. And I'm sure he'll leave at some point in the offseason. The way things are spiraling right now, it's not inconceivable that he'd have some issues when trying to return. Who knows, maybe CBP will take issue with some of his social media posts???

His supermax offer will be in 2027-28 and for 5 years, $379.86 million. The numbers are absolutely set in stone unless he doesn't become supermax eligible since the salary cap is smoothed out to only allow 10% annual bumps to prevent the situation we saw in 2016 where a massive one year bump allowed the Warriors to sign Durant to a 73 win team. And the new TV/streaming deal is big enough that the cap will bump that max 10% every year for the next 7 or 8 at least.

Yeah Wemby's not stupid, he is without a doubt very aware of how this nation is falling apart. I remember when he won the ROY he celebrated by giving a talk about dark matter at a local planetarium to a bunch of kids. He wants to be the greatest but if he sees this nation descending into a civil war I'm quite certain he will nope the fuck out of here to go play in a civilized nation.

Is this supposed to make me mad?
There are more important issues imo.
The right's about to fuck around and find out the sports leagues they love will be very negatively affected by Trump's lunacy. South Sudan is becoming a real hotspot of basketball talent and this Maluach kid is someone a lot of teams would love to have on their roster.

I wasn't specifically referring to his first extension, but the one after that. But either way, my point is that the money is getting so massive that it'd take a lot to just leave the NBA. I don't have a crystal ball, nor any insight into Wemby's thinking but if we're gonna speculate about CBP denying him entry after the summer, that's just out there.

Russia could theoretically launch a first strike preemptive attack on us, rendering everything moot.

In the meantime, I believe all the superstars on your list are rational players (except Edwards), and they aren't likely to jeopardize their future earnings. Is it within the realm of possibility? Sure, but if it did get that bad, you and I wouldn't want to live here either lol. I know I know, you've already reached that point. :p

If you look at it as only the NBA being effected in such a manner, than it really has zero importance. But in reality, it's just an example, that people can relate to, of what is most likely happening in every field or industry across this country. What that means is we could lose some very talented people in areas that are Extremely important, and could directly effect the very welfare and future of the citizens and this country, all due to the actions of this administration. (think scientists, Health and Medical, Cancer research, etc. The list goes on, where if these talented poeple get deported, may not have the opportunity "money" to continue their work for example, which in reality could effect beyond just this country in a negative way).

A lot of Trump voters might not know anyone from South Sudan and thus wouldn't give a shit, but losing a prospect like Maluach could start making it real for them.

Apparently South Sudan won't repatriate their citizens that are ejected from the U.S. fast enough. So I guess now they all have to go.

I would say the majority of basketball team owners voted for this so fuck them.
