a thought on gay marriages

this is prompted by the recent legalization of homosexual marriages in Canada.
Doesn't anyone find it interesting that heterosexual couples fought against the negative stigma of living common-law and being divorced and now homosexual couples fight so hard to be married? Anyway, that's my thought for the day.
